Hawk had wrong fuel sensor/sending unit

On the left is the "fuel sensor" I got from CSC, on the right is the one that came with my Hawk. Is it any wonder the factory sensor was registering empty 1/2 tank and below? It was too short to get anywhere near the bottom of the tank. BTW, the one factory one (on the right) originally had the bend next to the float at a 90 degree angle but I had corrected that shortly after getting the Hawk. The CSC one on the left shipped as you see it.

Question: is that rust on the ring on the left?

A 250cc dirt/trail bike doesn't need one, a dual-sport does.

Perhaps ~ But more likely some little doo-dad that helps sell the bike. "Hey, lookie here - a fuel guage. Whadya' think of that." "Cool". A voltmeter serves a purpose. So would an oil pressure guage. A tachometer even has it's uses. But a fuel guage? Opening the fuel tank cap to see how much gas you got is too much work? Come on.

Brings to mind Steve McQueen ... The Great Escape ..... Pop the cap and shake the bike ....then go like Hell. Most of us old farts have done that thousands of times - never thought a thing of it either lol

I would much rather have a voltmeter and oil pressure gauge, but, fuel gauge is what I was provided and it was annoying having it tell me a 1/2 full tank was empty.

With remote trail riding i do you can't get a good idea just looking in the tank so the fuel gauge is nice. When its just over 1/2 tank i can start heading back out of the mountains....

X2; that's what I wondered. Are the capacities similar?

I don't know if the Hawk has a larger tank or not, but the TT250 "fuel sensor" is definitely for a larger tank than the one that came with my Hawk. Unlike the one that came with my Hawk, it is a perfect match for the Hawk tank.

That's a stroke of good luck. As well, CSC prices are certainly fair.

Looking at the TT250 fuel tank parts list, I don't understand why CSC went with an external filter instead of the internal filter found on the Hawk. CSC introduces an additional potential failure point with the external filter. Internal filters are not only one less potential leaking point, they are pretty much self-cleaning.
