I really like the flat black look as well, and powder coating would accomplish what you're after in terms of resistance to gasoline (although it's a bit pricey).

I also like the flat but textured look, so I might try spray-on boxliner. It's applied by rattle can as well, but it's a lot tougher than regular spray bomb paint.

Those silver rims and reservoir shocks look really good. 8)

I don't know if powder coating a fuel tank would be an option. The tank would have to be spotless. Also it may be a misunderstanding on my part but I don't think that powder coating will adhere to body filler and who ha an old tank with out filler. Also, if it did adhere, then surely the expansion and contraction of the steel due to the baking temperatures would cause the filler to pop.

That looks like an interesting product. It must offer some protection from gasoline, but I didn't find where it actually says that.

It's gotta be better than straight spray bomb paint.

Got the install wrapped up. I was forced to make all new mounts (front/back/head). I fabbed a header and put an emgo shorty megaphone on, she sounds great. The simple wiring harness for vertical engines that I got from hooper imports was absolutely worth the $40 +s/h. It plugged straight up to the BBR rev box and had the connections for the kill switch,ignition coil, and engine out put. All I had to do was wire up the new reg/rec and it was done. The Lifan preforms great, shifts smooth and I think was more than worth the $450. I put a 'Mikuni' 30mm carb on it which was $40 on ebay and after a little tweaking it was right on target. I hope this summary helps someone in the future and thanks for all the help!

Thank you much for that. Naturally, as with any craftsman, when I look at it I only see the flaws, but it's nice when someone other than my wife says it looks good

That looks really good. 8) No heat from the local constabulary for not running a front fender?

Did the CDI come with a rubber boot around it? If not, can the original CDI boot stretch on? They usually fit onto a metal tab, but it would be a convenient zip tie point.

this bike is a '72, it ran points not CDI. The rev box didn't come with a boot.

Looks fantastic! Love to see someone resurrecting these old bikes, seems such a waste for them to lay around rusting away!

Probably no inspection or law that says he needs to run a fender.
