No street legal Duel Sports style bikes available in CA?

Hello everyone,

I've been searching and searching, and I can't seem to find any Cali Carb approved duel sport style bikes that are also street legal. As much as I love a grom clone, I wanted something that was more dirt bike esque, while still being able to ride to and from work. Does anyone have any leads or are they even available in California, or am I SOL?

Thanks in advance,

-Chad

Your choices are limited but available. SSR's XF250 250cc engine is pretty much an exact clone of an engine from a Suzuki TU250 but with a carb (XF250) vs. FI (TU250). http://www.ssrmotorsports.com/store/enduro/xf250x.php http://www.ssrmotorsports.com/store/.../xf250x_st.php

Good quality bike, overall.

One bike which was quite popular around here is the CSC TT250. https://cscmotorcycles.com/tt250-dual-sport-blue/

Great bike and great service from CSC according to numerous owners. Not as popular around here any more not because there are fatal flaws to the bikes but because most members are not California residents so have found other brands that hold up to their needs for lower cost and can register those other brands in their particular states (Lifan X-Pect 200 and KPX 250) as well as several bikes sold via Powersportsmax which seem to be exclusive to Powersportsmax (e.g. Titan and Templar) that cost less and are more dirt-oriented. But, again, those are not CARB certified while the TT250 is.

A newcomer to CARB certification is the Boom/Baodiao dual-sport re-branded and sold by Amigo Motorsports. Same engine as the full-size Boom/Baodiao sports bikes and cruiser (also CARB legal) featuring a 6 speed transmission and fuel-injection. Amigo also re-brands and sells a 125cc CT70 replica bike called the Amigo Rocky 125 which is also CARB certified if you liked the mini style of the original CT70 trail bike.

There is a thread about them here on Chinariders, and I think there are a couple of retail mail-order places that have them available that someone listed. Seem a bit expensive compared to the CSC TT250 at the price point of $3K but are six speed and fuel-injected.

Here is the thread about the Baja: https://chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=32182

I have left California as well, but when I bought my SSR it was the only Carb approved Chinabike at the time. It's been a great bike.

When I lived in CA, I did a couple of rides with members who own TT250's and I was very impressed. The SSR is faster, and the quality is a little better. But the CSC is cheaper, lighter. I think the CSC has more low-end torque and 21" front wheel makes it a better trail bike.

Did you retire or did you transfer to Arkansas? More importantly...did you take your XF250 with you?

Yeah it was work that brought me out this way. When I moved out here I only had room to bring 1 bike and had to decide between the Sportster or the SSR. I ended up bringing the SSR and I'm glad I did since there's a lot of good DS riding here.
