experiences with my new toy

Well, I did it; despite the freezing temperatures, I went out and took pieces off the bike. Specifically I removed the right side plastic stuff so I could get to the battery within. I do not know about you guys, but my battery is in a solid metal box, which feels as if it will keep it there well. Brought the battery into the house and put on a 2-amp charge. The top of the battery says slow charge .7 amps for 5 - 10 hours or fast charge 3 amp for an hour. I figured two amps for 1.5 hours might work.

I noticed that the chrome fasteners are in fact pretty darned cheapish. In addition, the bolts that attach the battery cables are not a perfect fit. However, from what I can see everything is still fine.

I have already managed to chip some paint off the side panel and figure a touch up with some model paint would do the trick.

What I really like about this bike is that the price I paid makes me not so afraid to mess with it. I am going to auto parts store today for a new spark plug and see about getting a better coil wire.

This thing is heaps of fun I been grinning for days

new plug

Managed to install new plug. Old plug was off a bit but was an NGK. Keep getting compliments on this thing. Just wish that silly 5 on the front would go away . . . far away.

Re: new plug

Hard to remove the 5 since it's been clear coated so I got a bumper sticker supporting my pick in the 08 presidential race and covered it up.

Sounds like a time to pick a new color and sand that five off that plastic.
Or just pick at it until you get it off And spray some new clear on.

I started to pick at some of the ones on my old bike, And finally decided that they liked being right where they were at If the paint survives the peeling process it should be pretty easy to get a rattle canof clear and shoot some on after you get all the old adhesive off.

I never did a thing the easy way

I got so tired taking off and putting on that plastic I just left it off after a while. 8) The more poking around you do, the more you will see what your bike needs. Then you start thinking about it for a time. After a while all that's left is the fixing. Good Luck Zap n2r

Yeah I put a gy2 fairing on it, I ordered it from Tom at RPM, I honestly can't remember the price, but it was reasonable. Tom is a good guy.

Anyways, the battery tray that you said looks like it should hold it in place, may... Mine cracked eventually and had to be welded back together, just another thing to keep an eye on

I wonder if it would be worthwhile to use JB weld to reinforce the battery box.
