Just put it together yesterday, so I haven't used it yet. The sucker is heavy duty that's for sure.

i've seen where you have mentioned this before. my idea is that among the throngs of traffic you are shielded in anonymity by sheer numbers. also within the anonymous "cages" of the automobile.

here, there is a record left open for all to see and document. criminals tend to take great lengths at researching the "set up" of an individual which is greatly complicated by having a moving target that is an automobile. we all are "at risk" here having a presence on line to a certain extent (especially in the post constitutional era we live in). i believe to each his own on the amount of privacy they wish to maintain.

tim..keep the conversation going thanks..

I don't know if there is such a thing as being too careful. I guess I assume that the more of my info that's out there equals more of a chance I run of my identity being stolen. In fact, just last week, someone, and I have a good idea where it happened, racked up $7,000 worth of charges on my cc.

I know what you're saying though... everyone sees your plate when you drive down the street, but do they know my name? Unless they have a way to run plates, they don't.

Good idea leaving a few bolts out on the left side so the tire goes into the pocket.

I'm curious about the way this is designed. What is the plate for that has the wing nuts? What is the purpose for the square tubing to extend out so far? Is there a place to install eye bolts?

The plate with the wing nuts holding it down is the ramp which attaches to the end of the unit to enable you to roll the bike up onto the unit.

The hitch tube extends out that far to accommodate for the width of the handle bars, otherwise the bars would be hitting the tailgate.

You'd have to drill holes for eye bolts yourself.

The part of the tube I was referring to is the section from the carrier to the end. It's empty there. Tim is correct, the ramp is supposed to be on that side. It's that way in the Amazon listing. It's your carrier, however, and you can set it up the way you like it.

the square tube has eyes already to attach tie downs to. it extends out that far to accommodate the ramp and to give you leverage for the tie downs.

I planned on buying a hitch carrier in the next few weeks.

I had myself talked into the Rage Powersports aluminum one from Summit for $129.
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rrr-amc-400

But the one originally posted here is only $84 on Amazon.

If you guys had $130 to spend, would you go the extra for aluminum or stick the steel one?
All I would be carrying would be a Hawk and maybe a scooter for the kids.

Mine is steel, because it was fabricated out of an old bed frame. This allows me to weld on tie down points as needed for different bikes. I hauled it many times on the back of a Dodge Caravan and it worked great. If you care to get fancy with the design, you can use weld-on hinges to create a ramp; once the bike is in position, lift up and pin the ramp.
