Looks like I'm saving a couple of bucks as I won't be needing new pistons or jugs. Taper is well within spec as is piston to bore clearance. Valve seats aren't fubared, either. Just the exhaust valve guides.

Cleaned all the carbon crud off the piston domes and out of the combustion chambers while waiting on call back from my parts guy. Still waiting on that call. Tomorrow, I'll tape up the bores and combustion chambers, then clean the outsides of the heads and jugs.

This is not the kind of stuff I'm looking forward to with my Ural. Not that I don't think I could get it done, it's just that I'm not riding as much as I wish I was, and as frustrating as that part is, having to do major maintenance on a bike I'm not riding very much just adds insult to injury. Still haven't heard back about the recall for the rims, now that I think about it. I'll have to give Blue Moon Cycles a call on Monday.

This bit doesn’t bother me much, though I wish I’d had the parts on hand before I tore it down. My go to guy for major hard parts seems to have gone dark. If I don’t hear back by Wednesday, I’ll go to the local guy. It’ll cost more because the guy is a dealer with a lot of overhead and not as knowledgeable as my go to guy.

I also learned that fewer of the Ducati Energia ignition parts are available for the pre-fuelie rigs. Oh goody. As a group, Ural owners are resourceful. I’ve downloaded several different CAD drawings and parts lists to convert to points ignition for the future.

Dang. Finally got hold of my go to Ural parts guy and found out there aren’t a hell of replacement head parts out there for the 07 engine. Major changes happened to the heads in 08. I can replace the heads with 08 to 18 but with rings and updated push rods, I am looking at an easy grand to fix Arpok.

It is less than what I spend on diabetes meds every 90 days.

Yeah, with this type of headache on the horizon, my rig may go to market with just 3,500km on the clock. I don't ride it nearly as much as I wish I could, and right now it's completely buried in the back of the shop anyways. I could probably sell the Wrangler and a couple motorcycles and buy a plane at this point. The plane would undoubtedly get more use.

You should get a decent price for it. With only 3500Km(2200miles) on it and the Gen 3 heads, you're sitting pretty good. You still have 36,000 miles to go to catch up to my manure spreader, though.

After the initial shock had passed, I see this as a burp in the universe. I'll end up with better heads and probably have a better running rig. I can probably do some magic on my old heads; later guides, new seats, p&p, NOS injection.. So, the rig will be down for a few more weeks. May as well go clean up my mess in the garage.

If you clean up the mess in the garage, how will you know where anything is?

But jokes aside I also will get around to removing some chaos from the organization system or lack thereof.

I need to spend some time in my shop and get it cleaned up. I had a bunch of vacancies in my properties over the past three months and the turn work has been brutal. I would literally grab what I needed out of the shop, and just toss it all back in between jobs. Buying a new zero-turn mower didn't help the spacing and layout any, either...

That's the problem. I haven't been settled in this new shop long enough to know where everything is. Case in point, I've spent a couple hours yesterday trying to find an old valve seat cutter. I found my missing high dollar funnel, a spray gun hiding behind some rolls of wire loom, and a few unopened cans of engine degreaser. Never did find the cutter. In my old shop, I could walk right up to it.

The ATV didn't help with spacing or layout in my shop, either.

If you find a 10mm socket, It's mine, it's possible it rolled all the way to your shop.

If you find an 8mm ratcheting flex wrench, it may be mine. There's also a 1" impact socket that rolled into an alternate universe.

Get on it, cheesy!
I keep forgetting to get a pic but we have an elderly couple here who has a Ural setup like yours, and they manage to be in every local parade. Just saw them again last weekend at Lumberjack Days in West Point and once again, forgot to get a pic to post here of your West Coast kindred rpoc brethren.
