exhaust mod for airbox clearance

what has everyone done to not melt the airbox when getting the new exhaust. old oem had about 1/2" clearance new has about 1/4". thinking of dimpling the pipe as i dont have a bender to unbend it any.

A small section of header wrap seems to do great for most people. You could also try adhesive fiberglass backed heat reflective foil on that section of the air box. Link for example - https://www.amazon.com/010396-Reflec...tive+gold+foil

I have used that foil before, and it does work very well. I've even used it on the underside of fuel tanks on bikes.

You can use any exhaust wrap if you want. I plan on doing my entire aftermarket exhaust with DEI Titanium LR wrap.

I watched a video of a smallblock chevy with headers on a dyno, and they started dimpling headers just to see what it'd do, and was proven that a few dents won't rob HP, so there's that.

Hey, whatever works. A dimple wont hurt its performance.

My pipe was pressing against my airbox pretty hard. When I first changed out the pipe, I wrapped it in heat tape at the airbox and it still melted the box. I tried to bend the pipe with a shovel handle and didn't get much clearance.

I was thinking about cutting the airbox, inserting a bent piece of aluminum sheet to add some clearance, and RTV'ing the snot out of it.

But, I gave up and ordered a pod filter.
