I dont like the Exhaust mod

I ordered the pipe b4 watching the mod video by motocheez. I really dont like how it fits and how he has to bend it. Anybody found a better way?

Whats wrong with the existing pipe? Can I just take the tip off and put not tip?

The fitment on the ebay exhaust has always been a hit or miss affair. Some people have had them install and had none of the issues you saw. Others have had to do a lot of work to get them to clear and mount up properly. My previous system I had to ding the rear pipe a bit to clear the frame and it hit the airbox.

The only thing wrong with the stock exhaust is the cat and muffler are pretty darn restrictive. It is possible to decat the system and mount a different muffler. Jerry just fitted the muffler from my last bike's ebay system on to his decatted stock exhaust and it looks really good the way he did it.

The only other "downsides" to the stock system is the weight and that it is mild steel. The aftermarket system weighs about half as much and is made from stainless.

the problem with the stock exhausts on china bikes is that there is a VERY restrictive catalytic convertor in the first leg of pipe past the bend out of the head. your options are:

A. cut the pipe apart and remove the cat for a better flowing exhaust, then weld the pipe back up, or...
B. make another non catted pipe work... aka slightly bending it to fit....

i personally opted for option A. because i already had an aftermarket slip on pipe mounted to the otherwise stock exhaust, and i have access to a welder at work, and the skill to weld the pipe back together.

As Dan stated I just used my stock pipe with the gutted cat. All I had to do was weld and extend the pipe about 6".

Option C. Spend more on your exhaust and buy something like a Pro Circuit, FMF, or Yoshimura for a CRF 230. The fitment will be a little better as far as the pipes, and about the only thing really needed to do is build a bracket to hang the muffler and again, modify the flange holes to fit. These aren't built for our bikes directly, so some minor work is still needed.

Dan, has the factory head pipe been improved? One other problem used to be the bubble-gum welds inside the mouth of the pipe...ARH

Nah, nothing different about the exhaust, even the bubble gum welds are still there.

Nothing that can't be cleaned up with a rotary tool.

I wish I would have known about the pro circuit 230. I cringe at the idea of bending a new pipe and putting kinks in it. So what I decided to do is eliminate the air box, and put an external filter on it. I already took it out... The next thing I did was cut the bolt bracket on the silencer it self about half way. Drilled a hole in it, and tomorrow will make a 2 inch bracket to mount to the seat. This allowed me to clear the frame. I will post a video or something later when Im finished.

I gutted the cat on the same after market pipe you fella's use..
but I turned the cat bulge into a power bomb to stop / restrict the reverse
pressure wave...

And the pipe fitted perfectly.. but I did put it on the boys CRF150F..
Amazing how well they fit on the bike they were designed for...

Many people are often afraid of dents and dings in the pipes thinking they are going to somehow harm the flow through said pipes. It quite literally won't harm anything in regards to flow unless you are having to crush the pipe beyond half of it's diameter, which at that point you likely have a different issue.

Correct.....
The internal volume reduces very very little till the pipe walls start to be come concave...
