That Dakar windshield is a nice looking unit. It appears to house items like a GPS nicely, and the wind protection is certainly a benefit. I'll watch for your results, Spud.

It's time for an update.

After more consideration, I decided to order a National Cycles Deflector Screen DX for my XR650L.

The DX version I ordered is completely adjustable and removeable without tools.

I was very impressed with the quality of manufacture of this windshield, which is made in the U.S.A.

I used the same brand windshield on my GS1100 for many years. Good unit.

I really like the ability to adjust, and even remove this windshield quickly, without tools.

I was pleased to learn National Cycle is the largest distributor of motorcycle windshields in the world, and manufacures OEM windshields for many motorcycles.

The Quantum hard coating makes these windshields more resistant to scratching than any other product.

It takes a little effort to get the clamps on just right with regard to angles and symmetry but after that you're good to go.

Most of the time I will continue to ride without the windshield. Therefore, I like having the option to easily, and quickly remove the windshield without tools.

However, I would like to have some wind protection when I take multi-day excursions, involving less technical riding. I think the National Cycles Deflector windshield will meet these needs pretty well.

If I actually had bikes that would be suitable for highway travel, I'd consider a windshield like that. Until I find a decent 400cc DS for a low price, I'll be riding in the 200-250 range.
