Chinese Motor (LIFAN probably) in a Honda XR70

Hello Folks,

My son has a 99 XR70 Honda. Can I install a China Clone motor in his frame? His is Auto Clutch with a 3 speed.

I think this will be a cheap way to upgrade him while not purchasing a new bike and along with the lift kit this will be the ticket I think. I would like to shove a 125cc horizontal 4speed manual clutch Mill into the XR Frame. From pics on the net they look identical in mounting holes etc. The engines are cheap enough, so I figure why not.

I'd give it a try. Like you say, the bolt holes seem to line up.

If you decide to move forward with this upgrade, we're gonna need photos.

The "goofy" thing I found was:

Engine: $299 + shipping
Complete bike: $278 (auction) + shipping

The sponsor of this site, GIO (on the left side of the page there is a click able link) holds a house auction here in Canada. A 125cc pit bike seems to sell at auction in the neighborhood of $300 there. These are not EPA certified, so you will not import one into the US, but there should be something similar available to you, if you look around.

Phil, a member here, is a US dealer. A PM to him will likely get you sorted out:

I have bought a few pit bikes from GIO, sold some, made a couple of bucks, welded a Jawa moped neck in one, and licensed it as a 1978 Jawa moped.

It should be a bolt in. You will need the clutch lever etc for the manual clutch.

Visit the pit bike forum. Also visit www.dratv.com for lots of conversion parts too.
