Anyone else had problems trunks falling off?

had problems WITH* trunks falling off

I recently took a trip up north to St Germain, and while I was up there I did quite a bit of trail riding.

I managed to do a few things...

-I found my stem nut may be too loose? I feel the front column shift under braking.
-Sheared my rear sprocket bolts
-My garage pro travel trunk decided to depart from the bike.

Luckily the trunk wasnt too far before I realized it had broken off. One of the mounting pegs let go, and bent the plate enough to allow the trunk to fall off.

Any better trunk mounting solutions?
Or are you not supposed to jump your bike with a trunk attached?

Ummm can't say that my trunks ever just fell off. So is this a new defense for indecent exposure? The are some beaches around here where trunks are optional....

Lol! Not quite what I meant, but close!

Also, I have the bike up on a stand and it seems the rear shock bushings have some play in them, is that normal?

Trunk fell off

I chose to not use the supplied mount on mine. I drilled four hole in bottom of trunk and used two "U" clamps mounted directly to the stock tube rack with nylon insert nuts and large homemade washers out of some thin stainless plate stock for the inside of box. I also used some dense rubber foam to cover the nuts sticking up and line the bottom of box. It does not quick disconnect now, but it AIN'T falling off! I didn't trust that mount thingy! Now after reading your post I knew i was right not to lol!

The most concerning thing to me isn't the trunk, it is the shearing of the rear sprocket studs. There is another guy here who has done this too. If I could find stronger studs I would upgrade mine. The other stuff is just a nuisance. The broken studs can leave you stranded.

heh.. it was probably me. I was just summing up everything that happened up there. I replaced those studs with some good, used honda ones I found on ebay for $10.

Apparently there are two different size studs, make sure you get the larger. Interestingly enough, the JT sprocket supports both.
