Help needed with Magician Carb

Just got my Magician built but having a issue starting it. On the right side of the carb are 2 screws that we're both tightened all the way . One silver with a spring and the other connected at bottom of carb with a hose. She did start up once and then died after about 25 sec. fuel is on. Tried with all choke positions. Any ideas??

Does the silver screw on the side have a thumb knob on the end? If yes, that is the curb idle/idle speed adjustment screw. The screw on the bottom with the hose coming out of it should be the bowl drain screw, and the hose is simply there to direct the fuel drain flow so it comes out in a controlled manner into whatever receptacle you drain it into.

The stock carburetors on the Hawk and Magician come jetted lean for those of us close to sea level, so they are notoriously hard starting even at full choke. What can make this even more difficult is if the valves have not been adjusted as they come tight from the factory and need to be set to .003 plus or minus .001. Most of us tend to run .003 intake and .004 exhaust.

If the valves are set and it starts at full choke, but dies when you go to half choke, you either need to adjust the idle speed or simply nurse the throttle to keep it going until it will hold an idle on its own. After a minute or so at half choke you should be able to turn the choke off.

so I drained the carb , turned gas back on but still won't start. After the first start today I did a oil change , that's when I noticed the screws. Not sure what else I should try
