Last Summit Ride: Remembering Warmer Days

This morning the overnight low temperature was minus 12 degrees, Fahrenheit. The wind chill at that time was minus 26 degrees, Fahrenheit. The current temperature is 11 degrees, Fahrenheit.

I shouldn't complain. We had magnificent fall weather, and the winter temperatures have actually been much milder than normal. The following photographs were taken over a month ago, on the first of November.

In the above photograph, the Grand Teton Range in Wyoming is visible on the horizon, directly over the bike's right hand guard. Here's a closeup photograph of Grand Teton Peak, which is 109 aerial miles distant from the motorcycle.

With a normal winter snowfall, I won't be riding back to this summit until July.

Lovely pictures. I think the snow really highlights the natural beauty of those vistas. I have found that amount, up to maybe an inch of so, to be easy to ride in. I guess it all depends on its consistancy and the terrain under it, and your tires.

Must you remind me!

If you bring Brother Roger to Idaho, I will take you both on the single track ascent to that summit.

Thank you, gentlemen.

Since you so graciously reminded me, Bill, here is the countdown clock to the official start of winter.

Here are some more photographs from the same ride.

Here is a closeup photograph of Spudville, on the horizon.

After descending from the summit, I rode some dual track along the east flank of the mountain.

That's the trail you missed last visit, because of the rain and mud, Bill.

Look at it this way: only 12 days until the days begin to get longer again!

That is exactly the way I prefer to think about it.
