Dang Spud, with so many bikes you must throw all their names in a hat and pull out one to ride for day!

I'm going to 'thin the herd' this year, Ron.

I bought both of my Zongshen bikes new, in-the-crate. However, I bought the others bikes used, for good deals.

IronButt

I'm having a thought here guys of doing a 24 hour/ 1000 mile ironbutt on my RX3 in a couple of months from Walla Walla ,WA to Idaho Falls and back to WW with some friends who will all be on big Harleys, Gold Wings and Victories. I heard Idaho upped their freeway speeds to 80mph? I'm wanting to stay around 60-65 mph so I don't waste my motor prematurely.
Have any of you done an IB and have any words of wisdom for me?

Also something I've always wondered is how do you get the icons to post in my message. When I click on one it automatically puts it up in the title place????? rj

Be careful with those really long trips, the mind easily starts to wander on those long boring trips and riding gets really dangerous, so plan plenty of stops to refresh the mind

rjmore, I have done three saddlesore 1000 days. You can do that on a 250cc bike, it just won't be as much fun as on a rolling sofa. The key is time management. I ride at speed limit +5 mph. You absolutely do not want to spend 45 minutes of your valuable time meeting a new friend and getting a performance award while you are trying to crank out 1,000 miles. I recommend doing your ride around late June, the longest days of the year. If you start at 0400 you will only have one hour in the dark. Ride 100 miles before you stop to eat. Walk in the restaurant, order your food and ask for the check. While they cook you go to the bathroom and take care of any incidentals. Your food will be waiting for you. Eat and run (after paying). That's a 30 minute stop. Don't get gas at the same time as food. Make that another 10 minute stop. Don't get trapped into shooting the shit with your buddies at gas stops, make them short and get back on the road. You will average about 55-60 mph on the Interstate when all is said and done. Your ride will take about 18 hours and you should be off the road by 10PM so you have had another one hour of riding in the dark. All this can be verified at www.ironbutt.com. Personally, I'd not do another BB1000 on the RX3, but then I'm getting old and soft. Go for it!

I would set your gearing as high as possible to reduce buzz for the trip, every ounce of added comfort helps.

I'm not "official" but I've done multiple 1000+ mile days on larger bikes. June is ideal for the long days as mentioned.

I would want a fuel can I think with the rx3s range you'll be stopping a lot.

Indeed, the speed limit is 80 mph on the interstate highways of Idaho.

The 'Post Icons' at the bottom of the page are placed in the title space. The 'Smilies' at the right of the page are placed in the text of the post.

Spud , all I see are the post icons on bottom. There are no smiles anywhere to the right of my message window, rj

Never mind I found them by going to quick links, user control panel, edit options, clear at the bottom changed from basic editor to standard editor.

Good for you, Rob. The user control panel is your friend.

Lee
I recently change front and rear spockets to 14/42
At 7500rpm it shows aprox 75-80mph
Give or take the 10% speedometer being off
To sustain those speeds you will be wide open on throttle
Inclines will slow you down
For me more acceptable than my original set up of 13/44

I would probably gear higher for a cross country or iron butt. The buzz at 8000-9000 is pretty bad. My right hand was tingling for 5 hours after I stopped riding yesterday because I was running WOT too much.
