I've always had great success with Givi bags, or their lesser cousins, Shad. With the existing Zongshen brackets, it should not be difficult to install the backing plates, maybe on steel cross bracing. And as Spud has already noted, Pelican bags are available but would require some internal reinforcement around the bolt holes or an L-bracket to rest the bags on and transfer some of the weight to the existing bolts.

What I do see is us all having a great time making and comparing mods and farkles.

George

The Minben has reached Wuhan, which with a population of over 10 million people, is the largest city in central China. The vessel is now halfway to the port of Shanghai on the Pacific Ocean.

Pelican cases would be terrific, but they cost cubic dollars.

Hope to post a short "first 200 miles review " over the weekend .
Thanks, Katflap. Very kind of you to provide that kind of detail.

Hello everyone

For those who are interested in alternative luggage, I'd like to share some information about the Dryspec line for those who are unaware.

Dryspec, sold by Twisted Throttle, is soft, modular luggage that is advertised as 100% waterproof.

I am eyeing the 78 liter package, with a central 38 liter bag with rigid sidewalls and 2 20-liter panniers that will float just above the side cases. Although it will require removing the top box, I believe that this luggage in addition to the standard side cases and a tank bag will be ideal luggage for the type of riding I am foreseeing on my RX-3 (blue, for better gas mileage).

The RX-3 will be my first motorcycle, and I'm sure glad to have a community of fellow riders to turn to when I need assistance. I'd also like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who has shared information that has helped me to decide on this bike : it's a huge risk for me to choose this bike as my first, sight unseen, but the knowledge of seasoned riders like yourselves gave me the confidence I needed to take the plunge. So....

Looking forward to epic riding on an epic bike

Those fixing holes might be a good place to mount Rotopax racks. Then, I could carry extra fuel and water. I would throw my Wolfman bags over those.

As usual, Katflap posted excellent photographs. I really like the bars in front of the stock luggage which provide both frontal and lateral protection for the panniers. Also, I hadn't noted the horizontal bar connecting the two mounts behind the rear fender, until Katflap posted this excellent photo.

In addition to the stock luggage, the stock pannier mounts provide excellent protection for RotoPax containers as well as soft luggage.

Exactly one year ago, I started this thread on the Zongshen RX3. At that time I doubted this motorcycle would ever arrive in North America, and I never imagined this thread would become the longest thread at China Riders, with the most views and the most replies. I wish to thank everyone here for his interest, and his participation in this thread.

Question pivoting footpegs

Anybody like pivoting foot pegs on their bike? I made a pair for my Honda NC700x and will probably add some to the RX3. Just need to get the bike to see what the pegs look like to make the mounting blocks. Wider support for your boot and pivot as the bike gyrates under you. Adjustable forward backward, up and down.
They make standing on the pegs all day a lot more comfortable. rj

Thanks Spud for starting this thread and interest. Your pics are great of China. How do you get to China and back between posts? Gives me joy watching the long journey of development and travels to the US of the RX3. And thank you CSC for bringing them here, rj

You did a good job. I'm sure people will be interested in your foot pegs.

Thank you, RJ. I've got serious jet lag.

The Minben has reach Jiujiang, and is just about to pass under the bridge crossing the Yangtze River.

Having negotiated a bend in the Yangtze River at Jiujiang, the Minben will now be sailing northeast for many miles until it reaches Zhenjiang. At that point the Minben will start sailing eastward toward Shanghai, and the Pacific coast.
