Rick, the 200cc China bikes are capable of 100km/h, but not much more. As long as you stay off of Highway 2, you'll be ok. The flip side is that they're terrific bikes in the dirt, because they're light and manoeuverable.
Have you looked at old Honda XL's? They're certainly plentiful.

Another problem here is the booming economy has caused the bike prices to be inflated above their proper worth. I checked online for CB dealerships around here, and anything I did find seemed out of stock or just not listing their stock. It does look like the 250cc is the largest from what I am finding out about CB Dualsports, and not sure if it will handle the highway speeds without screaming its one lung to death. 8O The search continues.....

To put a finer point on that for you, most of the 250 Honda-based CB's are actually around 230cc.
What part of the Province are you in? Have you considered buying through the Vancouver CL? Also, Pitster Pro's HO is located in Edmonton, IIRC. You can search for a PP dealer on www.pitsterpro.ca

If you want to ride the freeway you need a larger engine, which means you don't have an acceptable Chinese option. As others have stated, I recommend you keep looking for good deal on a slightly used, Japanese motorcycle. Spud

A 5 minute scan of my local CL's revealed about 8-10 bikes that meet your parameters. Keep looking, you'll find what you are looking for.

Well a bike that I had been looking at a month ago, came back on the market. Seems the owner could not get it started, so he had taken it in to
a shop for a look. Turns out it just needed a minor tune-up (plugs, fresh gas, carb cleaning, new battery) all due to lack of use recently. It is a 1988 Suzuki DR600 Dakar with 19,000 kms (12,000 miles). ORIGINAL owner, needs nothing, always kept inside, was asking $1950, now mine for $1800. I think the price I paid may be a premium price, but it is a gem, so to me, I feel good about it. Thanks for your help again here members, I will keep in touch, you appear to have a great bunch here at this forum.

Congratulations! You made a wise decision to avoid the Xingyue XY400.
Please don't leave us. We would love to have you start a new thread on your DR600 in our Other Stuff Forum. As MICRider stated, we would enjoy seeing photographs, and learning more about your bike! Spud
