Looking for old Honda Trail 90 parts

I just bought a 1969 Honda CT90. It runs and is in decent shape, but it's 54 years old and needs some love! Basic stuff like a broken brake handle, air filter, possibly some electrics, inner tubes.

Finding parts that I'm sure will work has been a challenge. I know these are extremely popular bikes so I know people are getting parts for them, but where? Every place I have found is pretty sparse on choices, especially for my specific year. It seems most of the parts are for 1975 on. Any ideas?

There was a place called DrATV that carried lots of CT90 parts but I've heard that they only sell on http://www.ebay.com now. I haven't ordered from them for several years.

Brake lever shouldn't be too hard to find, likely the same as many small Honda bikes. I believe the air filter for the 69 model is just a piece of foam wrapped around a sheet steel frame. Sheets of air filter foam are available on eBay. The air filter housing on the 69 was unique to that year and likely difficult to find. Inner tubes are standard 2.75 x 17 that fit many small bikes. Electrics, it depends what you need. A modern bridge rectifier can be substituted for the original selenium unit.

Yeah, the '69s were an oddball year. Carb and even intake manifold were for that year only. If you buy a Chinese carb for it, you would have to source a later CT90 intake manifold for the carb holes to match up. The Chinese manifolds on Amazon will not match up on the cylinder head end. Lots of little details like this on the '69. As Mudflap has suggested, there are workarounds for parts you can't get or are crazy expensive.

Thanks! I haven't seen your threads but I did notice your mention of the Tomahto so I was hopeful you or someone else would have good info. I will look those threads up. I had also just found DrATV but it was such an odd site that I thought it was abandoned.

Yes, I'm learning slowly how odd 1969 was. The guy I bought it from had replaced the carb but also gave me the original. He mounted the new one by making a little adapter plate. I'll leave it that way unless it gives me trouble. And yeah, the air filter does look damn weird. My bike doesn't have one at all and the cover for it just takes in air straight from the frame under the gas tank. I didn't know they made them without the snorkel up to the cargo rack.

I don't need this thing to be 100% original, I just want it to be 100% functional. I might have preferred a later 70s model or a CT110 but I got this thing for less than a grand, and that's kind of a miracle.

Honestly, this is the bike I wanted before I settled for the X-pect. I do like the X-pect, excellent value for sure. But as soon as the snow melts and the streets are swept, I'm gonna ride this little Honda until my face is sore from smiling.

1968 and back had a little box for the air filter on the upper part of the downtube, just under the handlebars. 1969 was the only year with the snorkel-in-frame, then for 1970+ they went to the higher snorkel into the rear rack. So many changes to these bikes. I'm just using a pod air filter. I like the simplicity. The Tomahto will be a street bike mostly, no fording of streams is planned. The Carrot will be offroad only, including knobbies or trials tires probably. Looking to throw an SSR 125 into it.

Under $1K for a running CT90 is a very good value. The CT110 is a better bike overall. More time to evolve. (Slightly) more HP to replace the dual-range transmission with a much simpler and normal design. The bane of the CT90 is the front sprocket. It and one of the dual-range gears are all one part. Rare and expensive. But it is made of very hard steel. Replacing it is a long involved process. It's probably quicker to swap out the whole motor than replace the front sprocket! (OK that might be an exaggeration.)
