Brandon's New Gio

Some members may recall me referencing my beloved illegal son, Brandon. I use that term in fun; he's actually my honourary son, and he's been with us for three years. He just turned 20 last week.

He has gotten into dirt bikes in a big way since living at Chez Weldangrind. He bought my '96 XR250R from me, and he rides it often. On the weekend, he picked up a well-loved Gio for his girlfriend, and the project will begin soon.

This is the bike, right off the truck:










It's missing the side panels, but that's NBD. The poorly applied black paint on the fenders and number plate will be removed to reveal the factory blue underneath. It'll look great with the blue rims, which are surprisingly straight.

The motor is in need, and apparently has a bent pushrod. I can only image the levels that this motor was revved to for that to happen.

In the interim, Brandon will strip, clean, service and paint everything in need, except the engine. I have a 150cc CG pushrod motor in the shed, and he's going to install that for now. His lovely girlfriend will get to know the bike with that motor, while he repairs the 230cc pushrod motor.

This is the model with the 16" rear wheel and 19" front, which is perfect for his girlfriend. This is the more evolved model, which has decent inverted forks with clickers, and a stainless header (which is not installed in the pics). I'll update as he makes progress.
