Hello

My family, friends and I mess around with gokarts. Nothing competitive, just having fun. I picked up an used frame a few weeks ago. Instead of building up a Honda gx200/clone/predator, like i have in the past, I've been kicking around the idea of a gy6 or Zongshen 250. They are about the same money as buying a predator and building it up to 15+ hp, and you get a transmission.

I landed here a few times while I was poking around, might as well register.

Welcome aboard! Those gy6 engine are tuff. I have one on an ATV that's 10 years old and still runs perfect. My daughters UTV also has the 169cc gy6. Both will do well over 20 mph.

This sounds like a fun project! A Gokart frame has room to fabricate mounting brackets.

Are you engineering a foot operated clutch? Gokarts are typically two pedal (go/stop). You can place a third pedal there!

Probably hand operated, although foot would be what I'm used to. It has pedals already, as well as front and rear hydraulic disc brakes. It looks to be a kart of European origin, likely intended to be operated with a water cooled 2 stroke and a transmission.
