does this need a special tool?

The temperature in the garage finally got to a reasonable level and I got motivated enough to delve into the CG 125 engine on the Panterra cafe bike. The idea is to see if it's possible to convert it to a 225cc.
So far it looks like the cylinder stud spacing is common, although I'll need to open up the cases by about .08" radially. The cranks look like they will interchange at the moment, but I need to get the old one out to make sure.
Which brings me to my question. Is there a special tool to remove the weird nut shown, and also exactly what does this part do? the o/d of the nut looks to be about 1-1/8" diameter, is this the same as the clutch basket nut?

thanks, Alex

nut

as mentioned there is a tool for this.... but I think I seen on youtube... a guy got some good needle nose pliers.. and vise grips and use the needle nose into the slots.. and then clamped the vise grips tot he needle nose.. and turned the nut off.... god if you do not have the tool.. you can always grind a socket to have 4 claws to fit in to the nut as well... it is not really super tight.. I will look for the vid on this..

I ground an old socket like Flashlight mentioned. I have a box of them that came with a lot of items I both at an auction. I used a Taiwan one. These were all old enough to not be made in China.

Alex, I'll be following your thread with interest, since I'm planning something similar.

The centrifugal oil filter is where sludge can end up, so it is wise to pull it apart and clean it occasionally. It doesn't become dirty anywhere near as quickly as an OHC version, though.

Yes, the nut is the same as the clutch basket nut.

thanks, Weld.
it was surprisingly clean inside. the engine has about 5k miles on it at mostly WOT, usually in a fairly high ambient temperature. there's no sign of any abnormal wear on the components.
I have already done clean up on the intake and exhaust ports on the 225 cylinder head. hopefully this will net me some gain in power.
Do you know if there's a PDF of the engine parts of a haynes manual anywhere?

There is a China shop manual that is quite good, and it's a pdf. Try a Google search, and let me know if you're successful. If not, I have an alternative.
