What happened to the GPXFSE250R?

I have always wondered why GPX did away with the FSE250R with the water-cooled Zongshen NC250 engine? That engine would be a screamer in a bike like that with its stock 26HP and 6 speed tranny.

Does anyone have any insight on this? I would imagine it had to do with cost of manufacturing versus how many GPX sold here in the U.S.

It looks like they done away with the 250 and went to a 300cc version. 31 hp. https://www.gpxmoto.com/fse300r

I like the TSE250 and especially the TSE300, both 2 strokes. Beautiful bikes. And the water cooled FSE300 looks great as well (4stroke).

I keep reading and hearing that the 300cc two stroke has enough torque at lower rpm to make it worth buying, but I don't have that kind of money!

There are used and barely used (test driven) KTM 250xc (2 strokers) on Craiglist for North of $7000. In fact, there is a KTM 300xc with under 500 miles on it for $7500. Again, just more than I can justify.

But here is a comparison of pricing on the new GPX and Trailmaster TM38 4 strokes:

Water cooled 300cc, counterbalanced 6-speed
TM38 $3900 (carb)
FSE250R $6000 (EFI)
Both claim 31hp.

On the 2 stroke side, KAMAX can ship one here for a total of under $3500 ($2000 for the bike, depending on quote). Yes, it ships from China, so good luck with shippers angst But that bike makes 30hp and comes with the same excellent KKE forks I have on my Templar. I have come very close to ordering one now and then, but the TM38 is right here in the states, and just weighs ~ 20 pounds more. The lower weight and center of gravity of a 2 stroke is real attractive

The TM38 looks like a decent alternative that can save you a couple thou if you are willing to jet the carb. Personally, I still like to have full control over jetting, but I know some people don't want to fuss with that. There is also the simplicity of a carb that draws my interest. Troubleshooting amounts to cleaning and trying a different jet or airmix screw setting. That is worth a lot to me.

Totally agreed re: carbs Thumper. I like the simplicity and fixability of them.

I like the TM38 300. I just wish the parts availability on bikes like that was more "clear" (i.e., like CSC or Partzilla where you just go in, click what you need, order, wait...).

Seems like a heck of a deal for the price. In my state, it would be easily convertible to street legal too. At 31 HP, it would pretty much smoke all of the available equivalent Japanese options too.

Same here! As long as the MCO states Motorcycle and has lights, turn signals and mirrors, you are pretty much street legal. Just don't go to the DMV because they have no clue. The Notary/Tag shops will run it right through.
