More likely a mass shooting.

I had breakfast with Harold and Jason yesterday. It sounds like things are just as effed up in Europe with management as they are here.
The Brain Trust over there has decided to "Streamline Operations And Consolidate Resources". Translated from Managementese, closing factories, reassigning and laying off staff. It's blown up in their face.

They shut down the UK factory and laid off all but one guy. He gave France a middle finger and quit on the spot.

They did the same to a factory in Germany but kept on about a dozen people and transferred them to the Colmar (the Beaufort of France) location just across the Rhine River in France for less pay. They walked.

The Brain Drain of older, experienced staff is also very high. Younger guys who started around the same time I did are jumping ship in droves. What new staff they manage to hire is gone in less than a year.

About the only successful thing they have managed to do is add extra layers of management across the pond. I get a couple of emails a month, asking me to welcome so and so to a position that didn't exist the week before. Yet, we were promised a larger service staff over here by 2018. It's the end of 2023 and we have fewer guys than we had in Illannoy.

8 more days.

I was counting work days and we've had two effed up weeks.

The official last day is Sunday but I will be done at 11am CST on Friday.

I don't know if the new head of HR or the new CEO, or both, are a people person, but Harold, Jason, and I each got a monogrammed cutting board for Christmas. We'd be lucky to get the time of day from Al when he was the GM/CEO.

Today, UPS dropped off a box from Beaufort. My first reaction was, "What fresh hell is this?" Mrs.C and I were getting ready to run some errands when it arrived. I was going to wait until we got back to open it but Mrs.C twisted my arm. I was pleasantly surprised to find a laser etched glass crystal with my name on it, thanking me for 26 years of service(closer to 27, but I won't quibble), a framed certificate pretty stating the same thing, and a really nice throw comforter. Mrs.C grabbed the comforter and said, "Mine". I flipped it over and asked if her name was Michael, as printed on said comforter, and said, "Nuh-uh, mine".

I'm guessing they figured out I meant it this time.

It was the new HR lady that sent me the stuff. We had a chat yesterday. I thanked her. She said, and I quote, "I asked Al if he had any plans to do anything for your retirement and all Al said was why. So I did." I let her know that she could expect more of the same from Al until he retires, quits, or dies.

So, retirement plans changed somewhat from the first go round. First and foremost is Mrs.C's health. She was diagnosed with breast cancer just before Turkey Day. It was caught early and the prognosis is good. She's having a lumpectomy on the 19th of January, followed by four to six weeks of radiation therapy. So, a lot of driving coming up.

Becoming a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Rider Coach went out the window. Thanks to some personality conflicts within IDOT, Illannoy Dept. of Transportation(also known as one letter short of IDIOT)all funding for the northern 2/3 of the state has been held up for so long that there are no MSF courses up this way. The problem has been resolved with the major fcukwit causing the issue being shown the door. But, too little, too late.

Instead, I'm getting involved with the education side of DuKane ABATE.

So sorry to here about Mrs.C's. Glad she caught it early, so hopefully everything goes okay. My Sister has been 22 years cancer free after her lumpectomy.

Great that it was caught early! Gonna be unpleasant for a while with the chemo, but that will end and life will be good again.

What?! Ill-annoy has fcukwits in gubberment? Gee, who knew?

I had breakfast with Harold this morning. First thing out of his mouth was, "Have you changed your mind yet?"

We had a little bit of a BS session about Beaufort. Inventory started last Friday and so far, they found a high dollar machine they didn't know they had and are missing two Stihl rail saws at $3K each. H told me that Al said two days, top, for inventory. We laughed and laughed. Last year, it took two weeks. Usually, Steve Sweeny set up the inventory. He retired back in October and they haven't yet replaced him. So this month should be interesting.
I did ask again if Harold has considered retiring. He told me that he has the letter written, he's just not sure when he wants to submit it. I suggested sooner rather than later because the MMs may decide for him.

The thread is not quite dead yet.

Weird.

I received some phone calls from former co-workers the last few days asking if it was true that I retired. Looks like some in management are making me persona non grata. Or they are just so incompetent that no one thought to announce it.

I'm leaning toward incompetence.
