Mid Pipe

anyone know of a low cost mid pipe that allows for an aftermarket off-brand exhaust on the 2015 storm ... i cut out the cat and would like to try one of the $40 exhausts from ebay but need a way to get from header to silencer.

I am not aware of anybody selling just a mid-pipe for the CRF230. You generally buy the header, the muffler as a slip on - which includes a mid pipe, or a full exhaust.

The easiest way to put an aftermarket muffler on an otherwise stock exhaust will require you to fabricate a pipe from where you cut the stock muffler off to where the new muffler entrance would be.

Or, buy the ebay exhaust, currently found for 99 bucks, which then allows you to slip fit any muffler you want on the end.

you know dan, i like you a lot better when you have good news ... lol ... but that is about what i expected to hear. still thinking about getting some spot weld cutters and just opening the stock one, gutting it, and adding a bung for a removable silencer

Honestly, the stock muffler can be opened up pretty well and it sounds pretty good too.

About the only benefit of the ebay exhaust, or any aftermarket CRF230 exhaust, is the weight savings. That stock system is heavy as hell.

Well, that and the sound of a straight through muffler. I love how my Hawk sounds lol

By the time you buy another header pipe and get the $40 Ebay Muffler it may cost you just as much or more than the $99 ebay CRF230 exhaust. If the stock muffler is made like the Hawk muffler all you need to do is drill a few large holes in the end plate in the muffler. You will then have strait through exhaust. I posted a picture somewhere on here.

Edit: Here's a picture before I cleaned it up with my rotary tool.

I was waiting for you to post up about modding the stock system Jerry. It's a good alternative for the budget minded.

It's still not going to be as "free flowing" as a straight through core, but with such a large volume to work with on such a small motor, it really would be hard to tell a difference. Plus, I know many people modify or remove the end baffle/spark arrestor as well, which can also act as a sort of "DB killer"

If you are on a serious budget, then a modified factory exhaust is the best way to go.

If you aren't, then the ebay exhaust is the easy, or in my case lazy, way to go. Plus it opens up options for other universal type mufflers. I do plan on trying a different can on mine eventually. I may even try putting the two brothers unit from my VFR on my Hawk once I change exhausts... Just because I can.

At the time that I purchase my Hawk the Ebay exhaust System was in the $150-160 range. If I had to do it again I would spend the $99 they are now.
