RPS Magician durable for a fat guy?

So.. I came across a great deal on an Haosen Magician online. I almost pulled the trigger, but I'm not real sure this bike is right for me. I wish there was a local dealer nereby so I could check it out in person, but alas, none to be found.

I have read some mixed reviews on this bike. There are some owners saying that the suspension is pretty baggy and bottoms out relatively easy. I have also seen where owners are experiencing problems with leaky gas tanks and shoddy welds on some.

I am 5'9" and about 245#..so yeah, a fat guy. My main purpose for this bike will be to commute 50 miles/day on rural back roads and perhaps some flatish gravel and dirt for fun (80/20) I am not planning on jumping or any real heavy duty off road use for this bike, just a decent commuter/round town/fun bike.

Any Magician owners out there have any input on whether this bike can handle my size and weight? I'm not a stranger to turning a wrench, so the PDI and regular maintenance as well as adjustments/upgrades wouldnt be too big an issue. My hesitation is with the claimed shoddy welds and leaking fuel tanks and then my size and weight. I don't want to look like a bear on a tricycle!

Any input here would be appreciated.

Saw your other post; Do you have the link to the dealer selling the bike?

Sounds like a great bike for the money and because you can work on it yourself i can't see you going wrong. You can keep an eye open for some of the weak areas and address them as needed.

This bike ,like the others,can be modified if the suspension is too soft, ie spacers in the front and preload adjustment in the rear, or worst case a different shock.

Post a link if you don't mind , price seems almost too good to be true.

I believe the listed weight limit is 300 pounds. That said my buddy rode mine and was fine at 312 pounds. And was fine till he tried to clutch the front end. Up and broke the chain.

Yep..Thats the deal I found. Still not sure on this bike yet. I like the Hawk 250 and Tao TBR7 as well. $830 is a great price, but I'm a little afraid on the longer term durability of the frame especially for someone my size.

I was going to suggest a different bike, but for the cost, you can, and should, buy two Magicians. I am being serious; kind of like carpooling but you are the only one going. Less wear and tear on each bike.

Ive had mine guessing 3900m now, Like mine but has had problems gas tank on second now an that 1 leaked decided to fix myself , remade mount on bottom of tank factory defect with spotwelding plate that welds brace to motorcycle mount to bike long story. first tank leaked when got it 200miles second 1 lasted about 2500 miles now reworked self good so far . Myne RPS 18 model heard no problems with 19 model on tank. I was 210 pounds when started ridding it no problems with suspencion has adjustment on shock if want to change myne still what was when got it. Master link on chain was garbage came out at 65 miles looked funny right distance at spacing but was smaller right with an right spacing between links had ordered but didn't get till later. Myne don't off road use, road sight seeing graved driveways only decent bike after bugs out. Engine good changed few things carb, chain, front sprocket so far, Worth problems see throu haven't changed tubes yet no problems so far there, have stuff upgrades not installed yet winter anyway. Overall good bike after bug removal happy with it, No problems with frame myne seems decent .

I have considered this already. I barely have room for one bike atm. I'm just not completely sold on this one. I know, I know..the price.

It just seems the safer bet would be the Hawk or TBR7.. I have a few months to consider all options

I have also started looking at the Bashan Brozz or possibly the Apollo DB36 deluxe. I have read (I think here on these boards) something about The Bashan and the Apollo incorporating Zongshen engines?

Unrelated to original topic but you are the 4th or 5th person ( myself included)I know of that has had a magician tank leak in the same spot... Hmm....

Seems to be a design flaw from what Motocheez was saying.

That factory produces very cheap.....
Maybe they’re not selling well due to issues n dumping stock

From what I've seen the Magician is the bottom of the barrel for these bikes. broken welds, leaky tanks, junk bolts etc. That said, you can't argue with the price. Just a new engine is around $500. If you look at it as a platform to build on then it's an amazing deal. If you want a bike to just buy and ride then steer clear

I will say that I like the looks of this bike..even in stock form. I'm still not sold on it nary I say even for $830. Deep discounts equate (to me) inventory dump.

Again. I can do the necessary mods to carb etc. but leaky gas tanks and crappy welds are a non starter for me. Unless I get one donated, the Magician
is close to being scratched off the list. No offense to current owners.
