Hawk supermoto rims

Has any one manage to installed supermoto tires and rims to a hawk?

Other than that, I am not aware of anybody doing 17 inch wheels. In theory you could do so by lacing any set of 36 hole Honda Rims front and rear to the stock hubs You would have to figure out the spokes, likely getting a custom set made ($100+ per wheel) plus the cost of the rim itself. You could easily end up spending $400-500 per wheel doing so.
That seems silly when there are two bikes on the market that are essentially Hawks/Bashans with that size wheel already on them.

I am personally a fan of the DB-47 250 and I am considering buying one to take over as a main commuter so my Hawk can be more off road focused.

I am not saying you couldn't get it done cheaper. For example These rims would be perfect for it, and the set shipped costs as much as just one Warp 9 supermoto rim. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Moto...5-3e728ca3b22d

From there you can have spokes made for your hubs to those rims by contacting a company like Buchanans. Figure $250 front and rear combined, plus the cost of any shipping, which might include shipping them your hub and rims). You could likely have this all done for $500. plus tires.

also as an FYI< if you shop around for the ninja 250 rims, they can be had very cheaply.... i paid $120 for the pair, with discs, and another $20 for the cush drive hub. then added $100 worth of shinko tires...

I looked at wheels and options for the bikes, I had issues getting the info on what hubs they use (front mainly) and at that time I had no way to ship cheaper then DHL.

If popular and someone willing to work with me I could look at it again and estimate depending on the quality of rim and spokes wanted $125-$150 a wheel complete (without tyre or disc etc) shipped to the USA

I'm not interested in Supermoto rims, but what do you need to identify the Hawk hub?

Starting the Ninja swap this weekend

Any advice not already mentioned would be greatly appreciated. I have a couple specific needs. Anyone know where to get a 95-07 Ninja rear sprocket for 45T and 428 chain? Also did anyone find custom wheel bearings for the Ninja wheels so the stock Hawk 250 axles can be used? This makes swapping the wheelset painless on ride day. Thanks!

First fitting

Luckily I was able to get the Ninja axle and all the bushings with the wheels. The sprocket side spacer/dust cap from the Ninja is perfect for that side, the CSC brake arm spacer with one washer riding on the bearing race is perfect for the rotor side. 428 46T sprocket on order from Sprocket Specialist.

Sleeves for the Ninja wheels to use the stock CSC axles.

Working on the rotor while I wait for my sprocket to arrive

Need to shave 4-5mm off the rotor, short sessions with the grinder so the rotor doesn't heat up and warp. About one minute at a time and let it cool down in between. It's not really getting that hot, should be fine. Spinning the wheel in the opposite direction of the grinding wheel. Will clean up with 80 grit when done.

As far as bearings go, pretty sure they are all standardized. If you live in a reasonably size town there should be a bearing supplier. Take both bearings down and see if they can find you a bearing that has the OD of the wheel and the ID of the axle.

In 40+ years of wrenching I've never failed to find the exact bearings I need from a bearing supplier (at a huge discount from OEM) for cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, RC cars...

As cool as I think the cast wheels look on the bikes, aren't they allot heavier than the stock rims? For anyone that's done the swap, did it slow down the acceleration much? Just curious.

I did think about weight going in but had the opposite thought. The Chinese wheels are steel, and you know they didn't care about weight. I assumed the cast aluminum would be lighter. Luckily I was correct. The Ninja wheel will actually lighten up a bit, this is with the huge 520 50T sprocket. My 428 46T is aluminum and will definitely weigh less.
