Roketa RSX200E, No Tach :~(

Hi guys, my RSX200E didn't come with a tach, but I would like to add one. My manual shows a tach port on the engine case. Do any of the other 200 enduros have a tach with this same engine so I could just buy their parts and put on my bike? Or, better yet, do ANY of the Roketa 200's have a tach?? I tried to find a universal motorcycle tach that was electric and I could just wire it off the coil, but I haven't found one??? Thanks for the help.

I think the Lifan 200 has a tach.

Send a PM TO EJCYCLES here on China Riders (BRUCE MATTY) He can probably get you the answer.

Just curious, why do you need a tach? I'm never looking down when I'm riding, except a glance to check my speed when I get up to speed. There's too much to look for ahead of me...like cagers!!

I'm a mechanical guy, I guess. I like to know what rpm the engine is turning. I will play around with gearing eventually and it's a good idea to know engine speed vs ground speed.

The tach on my bike is vacuum powered and runs to the carburetor. There isn't any mechanical port on the engine for a tach. I suspect that is the case for most of the Chinese motors.

Actually I think it's the opposite. If you're running an 163FML (OHV motor) which is what most of the Lifan's are running then the tach is mechanically (i.e. cable) actuated.

Fashby, your bike appears to be a bit of an anomaly compared to many of the others I've seen (catalytic converter?! EGR Valve! - that's not a China bike, it's a car!!).

My bike has EGR valve and mechanical tacho, hard to decide if it looks like a anomaly or a car, must probably ask my wife

Hi All
Ok lets clear this up, I just saw this post. The American Lifan 200GY-5 has an electronic tachometer, the 200GY-2 has a mechanical or cable operated tachometer. If you have a GY-5 the right engine cover Does Not have a tachometer cable port. If you have a GY-2 the right engine cover Does Have a tachometer cable port. The tachometer cable port is in the right engine case on the front of the cover.

I can't say what other manufactures are doing with the tachometers. They may be set up like this they may not be. There are only two ways to run a tachometer on any vehicle or engine, electronically or mechanically. There are aftermarket tachometers that you can attach a probe around the spark plug wire to run the tachometer, or you can purchase one that will run from a cable for that particular engine. There is no such thing as a vacuum operated tachometer. A tachometer can not tell engine revolution from vacuum. There are two things you can do checking vacuum...check how the valves are operating or synchronize multi-cylinder engine carburetors.

Yup, just like that! Kinda pricey, but Drag Specialties makes good stuff. Thanks for the link

Don't think the "no tach" thing is only a Chinese feature. My 2006-model japanese dualsport doesn't have a tach, either.
