yet another project

a co-worker spots this on craigs list and after debaiting and humming and haaing they got it for $65

it needs the tank drained and cleaned, drain and fill oil, carb cleaned, air filter cleaned and what looks like a part or two for the pull start (we have parts at work for our abrasive saws that we cut the rail with) and I am going to make some new fenders for it seeing as the plastic ones are missing.

brakes work ( front and rear disk) tires hold air....hasn't been run in a year but engine isn't seized.

this is for his 3 year old daughter so no paint change

my only question would be what is the fuel/oil mixture for one of these engines?

around 32 to 35 to 1. There won't be any oil to drain and change as its a 49cc 2 stroke.

It's cool that it has discs all the way around, should be a pretty simple little machine to wrench on.

got the re-coil working again just need 4 more bolts to mount it (someone lost them when taking it apart) good thing it came with 2 of them so I know what to grab.

this was all apart when i got it and having never done one before it was a little bit of a challenge

housing back in place with two of the long bolts that came with it .

then got to the carb.....funny it is a tiny version of the one on my 250

only this one had organic mater growing inside 8O

had to change the fuel lines as they were stiff as all get up (i thought that they were hard lines a first)
much better now

also cleaned out the organic matter that was in the tank as well

The pictures remind me of two things:

One, that engine looks like the 2 stroke's I had in those pocket bikes a couple years ago. Fast little SOB's. 8O

Two, the time I recently wound up in the ER for getting carb cleaner in my eye. be careful.

well got it all back together but i do not think the pet cock is working right....there is spark and fuel and compression but no start. there are no safety switches on brakes so that's not it. there is a kill switch on the left .... by pass it and see if that is it?

put a new ngk spark plug in and got a better reaction from the motor but then the re-coil let go so going to stop now and get a whole new pull start.

Is s drawing fuel into the cylinder?

That is the same motor as in the pocket bikes.

For the cost of a new pull start and more than likely a new carb I would ebay up a whole new engine. They run between 70 an 100 bucks.

www.bigmotorsport.com has the engines at 80 bucks and I believe free shipping in Canada and US

The carbs on those engines are notorious for being junk. I usually swap them out for a walbro pumper carb setup. No jets to mess with and far more reliable.

They also have the walbro kit at 50 bucks.May be able to find on ebay cheaper.

The petcocks are known for having the rubber break down in them and plug jets. I usually gut it,fill with jb weld and drill out a new hole straight through and add a fuel shut off to the line.

This is a very good forum for info on these engines.

I think i have the owner talked into just buying a new one and forgoing the huge headaches this old one could cause
