Worn clutch on hawk 250

I can hear clutch slipping when I gas it and the lever has a LOT of play. I already adjusted it and it's loose again. How do I replace the clutch? Any good guides? What's the best clutch to get? Any special tools needed?

While I'm there, the gears tend to skip a bit between 4th and 5th, like there's a neutral between 4th and 5th, what should I do about that? What would cause it? Any performance parts that would be best to use?

Which end did you adjust the clutch at? Are you already maxed out on the engine side of the cable adjustment (long threaded section on the right side of the engine)?. I beat on my Hawk pretty hard, and with the taller gearing I was running and my fat butt in the seat I had to feather the clutch a lot, and in 3000 miles my clutch was still working fine.

Follow this clutch adjustment guide for the TT250 and see what the results are. https://www.cscmotorcycles.com/Articles.asp?ID=298

Try that first and see how it behaves. The false neutral between 4th and 5th may be related to the clutch adjustment, or is a separate issue. I just want to eliminate other variables first (clutch adjustment).

EDIT: The only other thing I can think of would be oil related. What oil are you running in it?

That was the 1st thought that came to my mind. Over 3200 miles running a tall gear ratio myself with no issues.

Well I use 15-40 motocraft that I got at Walmart and risolene ring sealer and Lucas transmission slip stop, or whatever, additives. Figured I should. And I adjusted the handlebar side of it maybe that's the problem. But would someone be able to show me how one normally replaces the clutch? Just so I know what to do worst case scenario? And if there's a performance clutch I can add?

Is the oil JASO certified for wet clutch? I'm not sure if the risolene ring sealer and Lucas transmission slip stop are wet clutch safe or not.

No, the clutch won't be bad from it, but drain all of that junk out of there and put some Rotella T4 in there with no other additives. Non wet clutch rated oils and additives often contain moly or graphite, and those can cause the clutch to slip.

Put that fresh T4 oil in there, ride it for a bit and work that clutch, get it nice and hot, drain it out and fill it with fresh T4 again. Once you flush it out then the clutch should start coming back.

YMMV but I've not had much luck making the clutch stop slipping after running the wrong oil without changing the cork plates.

I've had luck with it on a couple of bikes I have worked on. It really depends on the additive package of the oil. Even if the clutch discs are worn, they aren't super expensive or difficult to replace, but it never hurts to try.

Is there any way you can explain or show me how it should be done properly? I reealllyy don't wanna fuck my engine.

Your engine will be fine. It's the clutch discs that are in question. You want to get as much of the oil out of the engine as you possibly can. Then fill it with an appropriate wet clutch safe oil. Motorcycle 4T or Rotella T4 being the easiest to find and use. Run it for a little bit and hope it starts to come back. After it has been run for a little while, drain it and fill it with fresh oil again to try and flush out as much as possible.

Worst case scenario is that the clutch discs are ruined and will never stop slipping. Get new clutch discs.

Do you know of any guides for replacing the clutch disks?
