Yours is cb engine and you need to take it easy on that brand spanking new engine.

TT250 is conterbalanced the hawk is not
it will be less vibration

Those hawks look great how many miles are on it it should smooth out a bit after break in plus the suspension with break in to and want be so rigid

vibration? i have two hawks, neither seems to vibrate to any more than nominal extent and as for what there is at higher speeds seems to me to be from the hardcore full knobby tires. Actually i'm quite interested in seeing the difference with my soon to arrive TT250 with the balanced motor and the more DP tires. And as for speed, get some miles on those bikes first. After 500 to 600 miles they really seem to come to life. 60 t0 65mph is no problem with my 16/45 gearing ,with a lot of throttle left. I expect to bust 70 without drama when i reach 1k miles on the engine,reset the valves, and switch to full synthetic in the case. (and keep that chain clean and lubed! The friction killing Dupont stuff from Walmart can easily get you a couple of mph over a dry/dirty chain).

Guess I'm just not used to a 250 single. My other ride is a Triumph Thunderbird.

There are different schools of thought on break-in and I've seen strong evidence for getting on it earlier than later. I'm not beating on it, but not babying it either. After some street miles at various speeds/loads I jumped on the freeway to see what it would do and got 57 on flat land. Today I learned that my speedo reads a little low so I may have actually hit a hair over 60, still not what I was told it would do, but I'll wait till it's broken in a bit more. When brand spanking new, I let the engine warm up and then accelerate and decelerate hard but never keep the RPM high for very long. I do this for about 30 minutes and then baby it for the first 200 miles.

This sounds like a pretty solid theory. Seat the rings while you can but not beat the crap out of it continuously. That's pretty much what I'm doing. I only pinned it long enough to get a speed number then backed off. It's been at least 25 years since I rode something this slow. Luckily I've gotten over that aspect and enjoy the little toy for what it is.

I swear the vibes are less on my hawk after gapping the valves at aroung 800 miles. They were too tight. Not really sure if an engine with tight valves would vibrate more, maybe it is in my head but it sure seems smoother now with the valves set correctly.

Many Hawks reported with with tight valves, so I would check them asap.
