Your favorite bike of all time.

Commenting on another post and talking about project bikes got me feeling all nostalgic. I think starting thinking about all of the various bikes I have owned in the past, and which one i absolutely loved the most, and miss the most. The only one I truly regret letting go.

For me, it was my 1975 Honda GL1000k0 Goldwing. My resto-mod project that went from a brown dirt covered mess that sat in the back of a garage for over 2 decades, to a polished, painted, and modernized classic head turner.

That had me wondering, what is that one bike for you? Did you sell it? Do you still have it? Feel free to share your story and some pictures.

This is mine. She was a looker and a blast to ride.

I haven't had the Goldwing since Spring of 2018. The only video I ever took of it was at idle, and that got deleted a couple of years ago.

I'm thinking my fave was my 1980 Honda 400 Hawk. Enough power for me, and far more refined than my 1967 Honda 305 Scrambler. Honorable mention to my Changjiang 750 Chinese military sidecar bike. (The pics are not of the actual bikes I owned.) I have owned almost 30 bikes. All four Jap brands, a BSA 250 single, a Norton Atlas, two Changjiang 750s, a Zundapp WW2 German sidecar bike.

I would have to say the bike i miss the most was my 1985 Honda Interceptor VF750F V4. It was the one i owned the longest out of the ones i had followed closely by the '01 Harley Davidson Softail Deuce and the Yamaha DT250. Had i kept the Interceptor odds are pretty high it would have ended up with CBR wheels and fitted with tires from a Honda CB500X.

2012 Triumph 675 Street Triple R. My first brand new bike. Black with gold wheels. Put over 17K miles on it the first year just riding around. Sold it to get my second brand new bike, a 2015 KTM 1290 Super Duke. The KTM was fun, but I was never as comfortable with it as I was the Triumph.

That's hard to say. I have many different "favorite bikes of all time" for different reasons.....but there is one I've never sold. It would damage me hard if i took it seriously today, but I'll never sell it. My Husky. Wait....maybe my Harley was my favorite of all time. Crap. At least it's still in the family!

I thought it was the 79 Honda CX 500, aka, The Maggot.

Does everything fair. Fairly quick, fairly comfy, fairly good gas mileage, and fairly easy to work on.

Then this one became its' garage mate. 2007 Ural Gear Up, aka, The Russian Piece Of Crap, aka, Arpok.

Completely different animal. Drives more like a snowmobile than a motorcycle. Eats tires, gas mileage is Meh, comfort is relative, butt simple to repair, and more fun than you're legally allowed to have.

Whereas the Ural has had one major repair since I have had it, the Honda has had its' engine out twice, replaced the entire ignition system, replaced the charging system, and replaced the fuel tank.

There MAY be a 2020 Ural moving in, in the next couple of weeks. If it happens, Arpok stays. The Maggot, the Diesel Project, and the Bronda will all find new homes.

My favorite motorcycle has to be my 1974 Vespa Rally 200. It was my daily commute bike for years between Lahonda CA and downtown San Francisco where I worked, 80 miles per day. Also took me all over the US, Canada, and Alaska. Sold it with 170,000 miles and bought a Vespa P200E which was not as good in many ways.

Favorite non scooter motorcycle was my CX500, of which I've owned 2 and a GL500 Silver wing. Many long tours on all 3.

this is like picking your favorite kid. Not sure I could pick one. I loved my 82 V45 Sabre at lot. I sold it and got a 2001 Vulcan 1500 E4. Rode that one for years and loved it. I had a 92 Suzuki VX800 which I customized and really loved. The torquey V2 in a lighter bike was so much fun in the mountains. I had a great Triumph TT600 that was my first track bike. I absolutely loved the sound of that thing wound up to 14k RPMs with a 2Bros exhaust on it. Had a Buell XB9R that was even more torquey and fun in the mountains than the VX800 was. I rode an 05 Kawi Concours for close to 10 years. I even bought and sold a Concours 14 and went back to the C10 because I loved it so much. I had a 1999 Honda Superhawk with dual Staintune high rise exhaust that I also ran on the track. Loved the reaction of people on the track when I followed them for a bit and wondered what in the heck that bike was behind them they could hear breathing down their neck. That's just some of them and you want me to pick just one? :o

Yep. It's possible. At the end of the day if you REALLY thought about it, you could do it. I get what you are saying, as do many here. We love them all for different reasons, so it feels like you can't truly pick just a single bike. There will always be that one, if push came to shove, you would choose over the others. Not because it's the best, or the worst. Just because it has meaning to you.

I love my VFR. I loved the 650 Nighthawk I had, the CL350, and a host of other classics before. The Goldwing just stands out that one step above. I couldn't tell you why.

Scenario: Your garage just caught fire. Which of your five bikes do you wheel out first?
