What's wrong with my hawk! Won't start. Brand new

So after waiting 2 weeks for anew carb thinking I had carb issues I got it in the mail and put it on. After about 15 min of fuss and holding the throttle down the bike ran normal with some lagging of power towards the top end of each gear. Put new gas in and parked it. Now it won't start again. Oil is smelling kind of gassy. I've changed the oil 3 times and it only has 65 miles on it. Changed the oil about 2 miles before the new carb was put on. What is going on with this bike has not run normally since I got it. I know it's a cheap bike but I would t think these issues are normal. Starting to make a buzzing sound every few attempts to start tonight. Is this the starter? Could just just be the battery dying.

Does it fire when you turn it over with the starter? Did you check the spark plug for fouling?

What did you do with the new carb before you installed it? Change needle position, jets, adjustment screws? Did you clean the carb up before installing it? Or just put it on the bike and go?

Is there fuel flooded in the cylinder? Pull the spark plug and turn the engine over a few times to see (put a rag over the spark plug hole)

Fuel Filter (install one if you don't have one)? Have you checked the float in the carb stuck/float position off/everything good?

Valve clearance checked/good?

Battery Voltage good?

Several more ? but you get the idea... the more info provided by you the easier it will be for anyone to help over the internet

will not kick start or start with starter and I have not pulled the plugs I will tomorrow. I dont have a huge amount of knowledge on bikes.
I got a brand new pz 30 from the manufacture it was capped and clean I just through it on since its the same stock carb

I dont have a fuel filter but I guess I should Ny recommendations?

I dont even Know how to check valve clearance or what that even means hah Im assuming its self explanatory.

Battery voltage should be good I dont have a reader.

Didnt think this bike would be an issue. My girlfriend has had a 300 dollar scooter for like 6 years and this thing is brand new. like a month old. Ill try and pull the plugs tomorrow and I guess change the oil again I dont want it to get thinned out.

Motocheez has a video on how easy a HAWK Valve adjustment is, check and adjust them when the engine is cold, I'm not sure if Motocheez corrected that or not from his video.

I bought K&N Fuel Filters (1/4 inch In Line) but there are several brands/versions out there that are less expensive

If your oil is smelling of gas ,change it again .It sounds like your carb has some issues ,could be a bit of crap from the gas or gas can ,could be some crap in the bikes tank ,could be some crap from when it was built ,but I would be pulling it apart and having a look ,if you don't know how ,look for instructions online ,if you are unsure phone a friend who can help you

I dont understand why everyone says get a fuel filter. Has anyone ever taken the petcock out of the tank? It has a filter already on it.

Quick question? What's the filtration on that built in petcock filter (the micron rating)??

Most aftermarket filters will actually give you the known micron filtering ability and with these filters being OUTSIDE the gas tank, you can easily tell if it's working or not and also if it needs to be cleaned... and they will need to be cleaned over time, those petcock filters have let crap through on several of my motorcycles over the years

Oh, and here is a pic of why I usually ask "Do you have a fuel filter"... see that black fuzzy crud stuck inside one of those External Fuel Filters ?

I will be keeping my inexpensive insurance on all my carburetor fed engines no matter the petcock design

I have not read whole thread but FIRST thing if not done is to check for spark.

If no spark replace CDI.

Yes, you do, it is located inside the gas tank.

Hard to start, low power, gas in oil=too much fuel, not enough spark, or not enough compression. Since you already changed the carb with no results I lean towards spark or compression. With the plug out of the head, plugged in and resting against the head, crank the motor. You should see a blue colored spark at the gap that fires at a steady consistent pace. If it's a weak yellow spark or it sparks intermittently you have an ignition issue. If it passes spark testing do a compression test. You can 'rent' one for free at many parts stores. Gauges vary so an exact number can't be expected, but you should see at least 130psi and likely higher.

Spark and compression testing require a decently charged battery. The buzzing you heard may have been because of a low battery. You think it's charged but have no meter so you're just taking a wishful guess. Since you've been cranking it a lot trying to start it it's likely that the battery is low. Continuing to crank it with a low battery will damage the battery and strain the starter. Get a meter, they're cheap; a fully charged good 12v. battery will show at least 12.7v. and by the time it reads 12v it's pretty much dead. Without a meter or charger available I'd hook jumper cables to a car with the engine off to be able to do reasonably reliable spark & compression tests.

My Hawk 250 is brand new and won’t start. I’ve changed the starter relay, carburetor, battery, and starter. At first the bike would crank but once I put it into 1st gear, or let go of the throttle it shuts right off. Now it’s making a buzzing sound and the battery won’t do anything. Help me please.

Wiring issue? Maybe one of the connectors isn't fully plugged in tight? Check the one from the ignition and from the kill switch first.

These bikes may not run great at first (rejet) but they generally start immediately.

Stop throwing parts at it. First off the buzzing sound you hear is the starter relay. It is the sign of a weak battery or bad connection. Check all connections from the battery. Make sure you have a good ground. Make sue the battery is fully charged. Next check that the kill switch is off. Is the petcock in the on position and you have full tank of gas. Remove the plug and make sure you have a good strong spark. You may want to ditch the cheap Torch sparkplug and buy a good NGK spark plug. When you do get it started, adjust the idle. It should be idling around the 1500 rpm range.
