benelli fireball

So, I bought this over the summer for not much at all (good thing since not much is there) and want to make a sort of a play bike out of it. Where I'm running into my trouble is this thing was a 50cc and there isn't much room in there for a motor. The originals are very hard to come by. This may be way more work than I thought but I figured you guys would at least like a peep at her. If nothing else I enjoy looking at it

Coolness. The simplest thing would be to install a Briggs clone motor and a Comet type CVT. There should be a lot of info about that drive train on one of those Cushman enthusiast web sites. It would be cool to find an original fuel tank for it.
Here is a post on another site where a guy put a Briggs V twin and CVT in his Harley Hummer. It may give you some ideas.

Ill look into it! Yeah i at least want the original tank to put on it. I'd love to rebuild it but the parts are so expensive and hard to come by it's just not possible for me.

I would just used a predator from harbor freight with a CVT too. Lots of go fast parts available for them.

Has anyone ever tried one of these Chinese clone diesels. They are are available in every size/cc/HP. I don't know if this video is any good, just the first one I found. And most come with electric start.

I can't see your pictures for some reason but I know what a Fireball looks like. Fun project! Here is a thread on some Harbor freight choppers I saw on the road a couple years ago. The owners were using centrifugal clutches on Predator motors and actually doing highway riding. Hill climbing was not their strong point.

I have a Predator 212cc/CVT on a little 2 seat buggy and it does well providing a low and high gear ratio and moving lots of weight. I recommend the CVT as well, just beware the belt slips and wears out fast if you plan to do any riding in the mud and rain. Once the belt starts to wear out you lose the low range and a new Comet belt alone could cost more than a centrifugal clutch.

I have been looking forward to seeing a restomod build like this. It will be a very unique machine when finished.

Oh sweet! I'll read that thread tonight. You have talked me into the predator. I Just hope there is enough space in the frame to accommodate it. Any pics of your buggy?

Harbor Freight sells a 79cc engine if the 212cc is too big for your frame.

The 212 cc with the cvt does a good job moving my heavy smart car sized Pep boys buggy across the desert with 2 adults at about 30mph.

Here is another idea. After cleaning up the Benelli frame and fork, buy a used mini chopper or pit bike. Then you can transfer over the wheels, drive train and cables over to the Benelli. That will put you in saddle sooner. When you transfer parts from a single running bike, you can be sure that the wiring, cables and parts will all work together.
-When you buy parts from various sources, there is no guarantee that those parts Wil fit together and work together.

Not bad advice at all. I see those mini choppers on my local cl all the time dirt cheap. Infact there is one there now for like $75. Wonder how much he would really take?
