Oil Change 250cc Hawk

Hey, i dont got the the 250cc hawk enduro yet, but when i do, this person said to change the oil when i get it because there is garbage in the oil....when i get this bike, will i have to change the oil the second i get it assembled? and if so, what is the best oil i should use for the bike after the motor is broke in and even before the motor is broke in...Thank you

Yes, change it immediately. Here's what a whole lot of us use because it has the JASO DH-2, MA rating.

yea i saw that, but i wasnt fully understanding it, the guy i watched on youtube said the stock oil is 15W-40 but about the oil that was already put into it, i wanted to be sure, thank you

I'm using Valvoline 15W 40 because I had gallon in my shop after I sold the pickup it was used for.

Remember, these bikes are super easy. it's 1 qt and 1 minute and your done essentially. Do it often and it will run forever.

It isn't really that the Chinese oil has garbage in it, it's that they haven't caught up with the rest of the world on petro-chemicals yet. The brake fluid isn't all that good either. I would use Shell Rotella 15W-40 non synthetic for the first 500 miles (850 km), then switch to Rotella T-6 full synthetic oil after the first 500 miles. I say Rotella because it is easy to get (Wal-Mart and truckstops)

ok ty guys, im hopefully getting one this january or febuary, i could of gotten it last year but i wanted a yz250f but i couldnt get that and ended up getting a ttr225 because my uncle saw it and my dad wanted to go look at it so i had no choice, but the ttr225 isnt a good bike at all, dies on me all the time, most unreliable bike ever, never will i get another yamaha again, im sticking with apollo, hawk, and kawasaki, honda, or suzuki

Wow, a Yamaha is a good motorcycle. If you can't figure out how to get it to run reliably, maybe the Hawk isn't for you. Most people who have a Hawk do quite a bit of wrenching on them to get them just right.

I recommend installing a magnetic oil drain kit immediately after draining the factory fish oil out of the engine case. The magnets will catch most of the metal shavings created by the initial break in of the engine and transmission parts. The metal is a normal byproduct of the break in of all engines. Because these CG clones don't have a paper filter, I think that the magnets are the next best thing.

My Hawk is sporting a Primo brand magnetic oil drain kit (bought on eBay for $20). It includes a magnetic drain bolt, a doughnut magnet for the oil screen, and another (smaller) magnetic drain bolt for a scooter final drive on a scooter. I'm using the final drive bolt to pin my grocery list to my refrigerator 0-:

Almost EVERYbody knows those shipping oil are NOT motor oil... Brake fluid are hygroscopic... NON-fresh (via BIG barrel) lowest grade filled at factory + LONG journey by sea = SHiT...

i can get the hawk to run right, MotoCheez is a youtuber and he hasnt had any issues with the hawk, yamaha isnt good in my opinion, if my yamaha requires to be pulled off all the time to be started, breaks down all the time, overheat, and chooses to break down alot on me when im going down the road then i dont need to own another, my sister's chinese dirtbike which is a baja 80cc dirtbike starts first kick cold without the choke and and first kick throughout the day, no issues at all, her tao tao has no issues at all, starts up no problem and runs great....yet, 2 chinese brands beat yamaha, my friends yamaha blew up the other day when he was cruising down the road, doesnt that tell you something about yamaha? blows up, doesnt run good, their junk, i should of gotten the crf230r, the yamaha leaks oil out through the forkshift where the shifter connects onto, it needs a stator but either way, no since in putting $80-$300 into a piece of junk that wont run much longer because im either going to blow the motor up or break it, that shows how sick yamaha makes me, like i said, kawasaki currently is my #1, then suzuki, then honda, other than that, forget yamaha.....also my kazuma 150cc atv is chinese, havent had to replace anything on it other than a carburetor due to the last owner letting it sit up,i did let it sit up, and i choked it with my hand turned it over for a second then gave it full throttle and it started right up, always start up, sometimes i dont even have to choke it, and that thing has went through abuse, more abuse than the yamaha and is still holding up, sadly my sister and her friend ripped the gears out and it doesnt want to go, but that doesnt mean i dont want to trash it cause it was the most reliable thing i have ever owned

humanbeing, we used the oil that was in my sisters tao tao that came inside the motor to break the motor in and it worked great, motor broke in, put the oil that was meant for it inside the motor which is 20w something

Don't use if in doubt (milky / doesn't smell like oil should...)
Typical Chinese practice:
1. Run straight w/ that shit for about 1/2 hour (or 30km) in chonda (When Honda designs it, we don't have good oil http://www.pqiamerica.com/tlin456.gif as today. No worries for such short time...) .
2. Drains it (had some metal shavings...)
3. Pour proper stuff in...
