yeah, I does seem to be the case. But I don't understand why the thermostat is opening at such a low temperature.

I will look further into the logs and get back to you with probably some "half baked" theories as to why this is happening

If you are taking the temp from the stock sensor, it's at the "out" end of the first radiator, so it's already been cooled some.

Jay, that sensor looks the part but its just a thermo-switch for the fans.

My temp readings come from the PCHUD diagnostic software which uses the temp sensor with the blue connector, mounted on the thermostat housing. I also have an after market temp gauge with a sensor positioned just before the thermostat housing.

Ever wondered how much water flows through the thermostat air bleed hole when the thermostat is shut ? , NO, why not ?

Half baked theory # 1

It took just 2 mins to pump through 1 Litre of water, that's the total coolant capacity of the RX3.

And this pump is tiny , it used to be part of a miniature solar fountain. Probably operates at less than 1000rpm.

No match to the bikes pump in size and running at 1500rpm plus.

So my theory is that this amount of coolant flow , and its probably more, is enough to keep the system cool, below the thermostat opening temp.

( standard RX3, 70c stat used ).

@katflap, larger cooling system is good, frankly I am not sure if and how rx3 would perform in Hot summer here where I live as our coldest winter has 16'C on average and in summer temperature hits 50~55'C easily..

My RX3 is few of the first RX3 which came to Pakistan, and they all came recently in winter so haevnt put them on test in boiling "summers" we have here , but a year ago XY400 (another Chinese 400cc Adventure bike) came here and it was total catastrophe in summer...

XY400 is equipped with a WIDE radiator (much larger then what we see as a pair in RX3) but it was over heating badly even on high way ..

and when it heats up heavily it will blow away its radiator cap and steam would start pour out of every where..

and then whole clan has to wait with our buddy untill it cools down to usable position, in last days of our tour he was so frustrated that he would sprinkle water from water bottle on engine to cool it down quickly..

I don't think the RX3 has any issues with hot weather, it's the opposite, the engine has cooling capacity to spare.

I thought the Florida summer temperatures in the 90's F was hot.

50-55 C = 122-131 F

Vicky...actually that 400 is an awesome looking rig (minus the socks and sandals, I know it's a cultural thing).

Was there ever a fix, or reason for the overheating. Bad thermostat? Kink, blockage poor flow? Addition of oil cooler could help also. I wouldn't give up on it

I've done 108' here, sitting in traffic, on my RX3 and the fans kicked on and it never overheated. Me on the other hand, went straight for a glass of cold water and a beer.

That's a fair comment, vickytulla. I hadn't imagined the RX3 been ridden in those kind of temperatures

50 - 55c , , man that's hot !, anything north of 30c , I'm in the shade sipping iced tea.

I'm optimistic, I think your RX3 will be OK.

I look forward to reading how well it does once your summer comes.

Any of you guys, gals remember anyone mentioning an RX3 overheating? I know I've road mine in 104 deg summer desert heat all day long with no problems from the bike. I on the other hand felt like a raisin. rj
