Moto Pro 125

Got the new 125 picked up and assembled yesterday. What a nightmare, not because the assembly was difficult, but because it was 95° outside with high humidity. Everything went pretty smoothly but I did have to bend a bracket with a pipe wrench to install the rear rack. Valve adjustment and carb tuning today.

Talk about an underpowered POS, I'm so disappointed with this thing. It won't cross a 4" log, won't go up any kind of grade at all, even a small hump on the trail. And my niece Gabriella had to walk it up the driveway. It's called an adult sized quad but I think all they did was put bigger rims and tires on it without adjusting the gearing. It barely pulls itself on flat ground. Does anyone know what sprockets fit on the thing?

I don't care if I have to gear it down to lawn tractor speed, it's gotta be able to go down the trail.

Is the clutch slipping? If it's an auto clutch you might need to adjust the clutch.

Belt driven CVT I think, really haven't looked at it yet.

I think it's just geared way too tall. Because on the pavement it will (eventually) get to rolling at a pretty good pace. I'm gonna have Jay count the teeth on each sprocket today and pull the front one to measure the pitch and output shaft.

Couldn't find any size information at all on here but looking on Amazon it's probably a 420 chain and 17 or 20mm output shaft.

The tires are pretty tall, 19" on the front and 18" on the rear.

The GY6 will have a CVT. Without knowing exactly what engine you have makes it a little challenge to help. lol But typically they are all about the same. Although this is for a dirt bike it should be the same.

Watched the video. Doesn't look anything like my cvt. Maybe you meant to post another video?

That video is for a horizontal clone, it doesn't apply to a GY-6.

Well the clutch adjustment screw can only be turned 2 turns out from lightly seated. It was set at 1.5 turns out so we took it to 2 turns out and it slips just as much as it did before.

Well after watching several videos on 125 semi clutches and a few about shifter adjustment I've learned a few things. A new clutch is only $30, and you need to buy a special socket ($5) to remove the clutch. And alot of faulty clutches come from China. You can also shim the springs for more clamping force but it's not recommended.

Shifter adjustment: You turn the screw one turn in and then back it out till you feel the slightest resistance, and then turn it back in (clockwise) an 1/8 turn and tighten the locknut.

There are also 17 and 18 tooth clutches, so you have to figure out which one you have before ordering a new one.

My correspondence with MotoPro. We waited 2 months for a 125cc quad and it arrived with a bad clutch. It won't climb the slightest incline even with nobody on it, and struggles to move on flat ground. I know China bikes come with problems, I've bought 6 in the last 2 years, but this is completely unacceptable considering I spent $1,200. 😠

Ha! Even a blind dog finds a bone every now and then. My original plan was to just replace the clutch with another stock clutch, but after extensive research your just replacing Chinese junk with more Chinese junk, and all of the stock semi automatic clutches are short lived. So I found a company in Billings Montana called whygostock.com that sells performance parts for Chinese bikes of all sizes.

They sell a heavy duty rebuild kit (friction plates) for $27 total that's manufactured in the UK and not China. Every review was 5 stars and talked about how well the plates performed. One fella said he'd been through 3 Chinese clutches and instantly noticed the increased grip on hard acceleration. I think we have a winner here.

On another note, I went to adjust the idle screw and there's a damn nylon plug covering the screw, just like the A/F mixture screw.

The site isn't letting me upload pics at the moment and I hope they get it straightened out soon enough, but I also spent an additional $300 to make this thing a decent riding and handling machine for my niece Gabriella.

The front suspension is way too stiff, even with a 260lb man on it, so I bought 320mm TRX250R replacement shocks (black and gold with remote reservoirs) for $90 which look pretty snazzy.

The rear wheels track narrower than the front so I bought Freedom Country 2" billet aluminum spacers for $50 to widen the rear track 4".

Next up was the handlebars and chincy grips. It comes with 27" bars that will break your arm if one tire hits an obstacle and require alot of work to steer because of poor steering geometry. So I bought 34" ProTaper ATV bars and pillow grips, and a bottle of ProTaper grip glue.

After that was the gearing. Here in southeastern Ohio we have hills that are mindboggling and range from scary to deadly and might take you up 200ft in elevation on a single hill climb. I don't expect my niece to tackle any of those but even our mild trails require alot of climbing. The bike comes with 13/35 (2.7 ratio) and that's pretty tall for a 125cc quad. So I ordered a 10 and 11 tooth front sprocket. The 10 tooth (3.5 ratio) should make the little thing a tank with the new clutch, and if she thinks it's too slow the 11 tooth (3.2 ratio) might be a good compromise. She's not interested in speed, she just wants to be able to go where I go on Big Hoss.
The sprockets attach with a snap ring so you don't have to worry about the traditional Honda plate and screws hitting the chain.

Last but not least I'm gonna get her a quality 420 O-ring chain, but I want to see which sprocket combo she prefers first. From YouTube videos I know these mods will improve the stability, handling, and steering of the little bike, and hopefully she enjoys it.
