TBR7 Speedometer Cable

Turns out my speedometer cable broke last week and TaoTaoPartsDirect is out of stock.

Do any of you happen to know if this one I found on Amazon would work? Looks the same as what I've got and someone comments that it fits the Hawk.

Hi Slug,

My son and I each need a new speedo cable, just ordered one. Will keep you posted re: fit on a 2021 TBR7 (in case you don't hear from anyone else).

I ordered one from Amazon, but then found the same on Cycle Gear and it shipped to my local store. Cycle Gear was almost overnight if I recall.

HTH,

HTH,

I also ordered one. It'll be here Tuesday, so I'll update then.

Received the cable today -- 3 inches shorter than original, bummer.

Shorter? That makes no sense. Unless someone trimmmed it wrong and sent it back. My guess was they cut the wrong end too.

Measure the length of your broken one, put pieces together, and post here. Those online ads should give an actual length.

Hi CT,

An Amazon question had an answered length of 36.73" -- had I noticed this early on I wouldn't have ordered it. At least on our two bikes, they need every fraction of an inch to connect and function properly.

The original housing measured just over 39", this new housing was almost exactly 36". I didn't look at the original, assembled cable & housing, but my guess is the original cable (not the housing) measured closer to 40" (the square end at the speedo protrudes some nominal amount beyond the housing).

We lost both cables at Youth Hunt Turkey Camp when they disconnected at the wheel and the cable slid out of the housing. Small price to pay for five young men, that had never ridden motorcycles, got to ride around camp for a couple days.

Someone mentioned a Brozz 250 cable, but didn't see it listed on their site.

Still searching, thank you to all for suggestions.

@HiveGuys,

I have one arriving tomorrow and I'll update with measurements. I would assume it fits considering it fits the Hawk and almost everything is interchangeable between the two bikes.

You can also get parts from partskit, they seem to be low on Cables but they do have some, and they are only 7$ or so

here

Also as a idea, is this not a good time to just upgrade to a digital speedometer? Granted that's 60-70$ but still 1 less cable to maintain and more accurate speed and mileage

The kits I ordered, were exact and I laided out a new one to compare length to the broken one.

I suspect the one you received was defective. Looking forward to the photos.

Good luck, I had a lot of luck with Cycle Gear's quick shipping to their stores.

So, I got the cable today and it is about 2 inches shorter than original but I was able to attach it without any issues.

Did some test riding and compared the gauge to my speedometer app and it lined up perfect, might even say it's more accurate than before.

Glad to hear, I had to trim mine to match the original. Why I lined up broken parts to size up the new speedometer cable with the old one.

Just have to be sure you DO NOT cut the 'square' end.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Excellent!
