XR200 clone motor
Is there a Chinese XR200 clone motor that will bolt right up to a stock XR200 frame ??.

Pretty much anything that is a 163fml. They'll have a longer stroke and slightly smaller bore, and sometimes a wider mount at the head (which can be addressed with a file). Just make sure you get an ohc if that's what you want, a lot of the 163s are pushrod.
Edit: it depends on how much of a clone that you want it to be, exactly. They won't have the same bore/stroke, because the Chinese only do the 62,2 mm stroke to the best of my knowledge (vs 57,8 with the XR), and they tend to be kickstart and electric start, which necessitates a 5 speed instead of a 6. I don't believe the Chinese ever made a kickstart only 163fml with a 6 speed. If you're looking for a place to get a motor, the motor from the FSE250S from GPX would be a reputable company you could get one from, though it's a 223cc motor instead of 200. |

I’m not too concerned with it being OHC or OHV or the bore and stroke.
I just need a motor that will bolt into a 1982 Honda XR200r frame. I have a complete rolling chassis minus a motor and it’s just going to be a extra trail bike for friends to use. |

Anything vertical 200-250 should slot right in, other than the counterbalanced models. I have an '82, and the cylinder head mount on the engine was too wide, you can either space out the brackets, or you could file on the cylinder head. I'd get the GPX 250S motor.

I can’t afford the GPX engine but I can afford the Lifan.
Is the Lifan a decent engine ?.. |

Yes the Lifan made CG clones like the 163fml mentioned here are very reliable and easy to keep running.

Yep, it'll do fine. Try to get a harness with it. If you wanted to make it e-start with the XR harness, you'd obviously have to add a switch and the circuits, and then also a battery bracket. I've got a harness from an e-start bike on mine, but the bike's not running, it's a project back in the States (I'm in France). It'll work, because it worked on the bike I took it off of. It's not too much work to add the wiring and solenoid.
I'm not 100% certain I'll add a battery, but I might just do a bank of ultra capacitors. It's really up to you. Feel free to pm if you have any questions. |
