Well I did it again!!

Got a new toy, well new to me. It's a 2008 Suzuki DR650 with 3400 original miles on it. It still had the original tires on it that of course needed to be replaced. I installed some shinko 705's on it. This thing is a beast for a dual sport bike. The bike is slim enough that I feel like I'm riding a 250, with a little extra weight But the low to mid range on this thing is incredible! I topped out at 95mph and maybe could have squeezed 5 more out of it but it was a little too squirrely with the wind at that speed. I'm looking forward to hitting the trails and see how it does.

I was really hoping to get another Brozz 250 but they won't have anymore in until December. Jeff said he will have some Recon's with a few changes added to it in November, but I wanted the more 50/50 Brozz and they won't be in for a month after the recon's. I may still get one if I sell my XR250 who knows.

Bikes like the DR650 are getting tough to find. The DR is powerful enough for some freeway use, but air cooled and carbureted for easy maintenance and mods.

I agree!. I was interested in all 3 bikes in it's class. The Honda XR650L, KLR650 and the DR. While I was looking I came across a guy who had all 3 bikes and they were all for sale. He bought the KLR for himself and the other 2 bikes for his sons to ride. I think they rode almost all road miles. Interestingly enough all bikes had roughly the same mileage on them but there was something about the DR that just tripped my trigger. The best of the 3 bikes was the XR but it was better suited for trail riding I believe. The KLR was best suited for the road and the DR seemed to be best all around. The thing I like the most about it is the completely stock exhaust. It's nice and quiet and has enough power with it stock that I will leave it that way. It's a hoot to ride for sure and look forward to exploring some new trails.

Thanks for your report. I have been mulling over the 650-class dual sport idea for a while now, and pretty much have it narrowed down to the KLR and the DR. Probably leaning a bit more towards the Kawasaki right now, as my "offroad" use would be nothing worse than a gravel road or a decent trail, but the truth is my decision will probably be made based on which one becomes available at a price and at a time when I have the cash, and I really don't think I'd go wrong with either.

The KLR sounds perfect for your situation, it's a great bike and a lot of people love them. A little bit more bulky than the DR but a rock solid machine. The KLR has a lot better wind and water protection, better gauges, and probably a bit more comfortable. I think your right, you wouldn't go wrong with either bike.

I wouldn't trade my DR for anything! I really haven't been able to take it out since we're back in Georgia, but once things calm down a bit we get into the house we want, I'm sure it's going to see all sorts of use! I'm sure you're really going to enjoy it!

Thanks for the encouragement Emerikol!!
I see you have a 2015 DR, I looked at a 2021 DR650se brand new for $5799! I was ready to pull the trigger and went in to work on the deal, guess how much out the door it was? $8010 I almost fainted then I walked out. He said they won't knock any fees off because they are having such a hard time getting these bikes that they have to make all they can on the sales.

Same exact reason there's not a new Suzuki DRZ400SM sitting in my garage.

Herbie, that's absolutely bananas! I took mine out the door for just a touch over $5,300. There was 1.4 miles on the clock when I started it and rode off the lot. I was going to pay cash for it, but they gave me 0.1% financing for 48 months. The note was something like $114 a month. That was just too good to pass up, even with as much as I hate making payments on stuff. When you decide to start tinkering with it, Procycle is going to be your best friend. They have just about the best prices I've ever seen on tools, parts, mods and farkles. Here's the website: procycle.us
