Hero Motorcycles

Anyone (culcune?) know anything about these? Made in India....and I don't recognize the motors as the normal, CG or OHC China motors. All small displacement.
They sponsored the PGA tour this weekend, according to my brother and he asked me about them. Any knowledgeable input?

From the products page, I'm seeing four different motors. The Karizma looks to be equipped with a CB250 OHC, the Achiever has a CG150, the Passion Xpro looks like it could have a Yamaha-cloned 100 and the HF Deluxe has a horizontal Honda clone 100.

Ok... I was wondering. According to Wiki, they're actually manufactured in India. I figured that China would have had their hand in it somewhere.

The whole deal could be made in India. It's certainly plausible that they are making Honda and Yamaha clones, just like our Chinese friends.

I thought I read they used to be in direct partnership with honda.

I also saw the hero, tiger Woods tie in press conference too and had to peak at there Web site, , more small cc bikes from overseas.

I am not familiar with them, but I have heard of them, probably on mychinamoto, which is more 'international' than Chinariders. If they are trying to come to the US, I should look over the EPA 'list' to see if they have any bikes passing certification. I don't recall any, but I do tend to look for the 'usual suspects' on the list and might have passed over them.

They are a big company in India. Partnered with the last incarnation of EBR in exchange for engineering help from Eric Buell. They put millions into EBR, but then failed to finish their financial commitment to EBR, thus causing them to go out of business for the second time.

They have to have some pretty good manufacturing capabilities in India. They've been making tractors longer than anyone on Earth and the Mahindra is supposed to be a hell of a tractor.

As BB says though, I'm not sure if the USA needs more small displacement stuff.

Hero had struck a USA distribution deal with EBR (Erik Buell Racing) last year. Unfortunately, EBR went bankrupt. Bummer.
