more carb talk hawk 250

Ok so when I ordered my hawk 250 I ordered a carb also ... Like the rest of us I thought I was ordering a 30mm carb but I was wrong ... Its like the same one you can buy on hawk250.com

First looking at the VM28 flatside or TM28 flatside there both pretty pricey but then I found the PWK28 flatside..

I think I might order it this week and see what I can gain with it if anything.. and the intake seems bigger then the vm26 round style we been using also so probably have to mod the air intake tube ...

Anyone running a PWK28 ? And I see its been asked but Is anyone running a VM28 or TM28 ?

You have done all of the other mods to the airbox and exhaust systems, right? And you found out that the VM26 is not a 30mm venturi carb? And you want to put a 30mm venturi carb on your 229cc engine? Do I understand you correctly? Please respond.

The vm26 is plenty of carb in my opinion and experience. I run a 110 jet stock pilot but I will soon change that to a 25 in the spring.

Agreed. The VM 26 works great, is cheap and jets are readily available. I've been swapping over to these also. Eliminates the "dying rubber intake syndrome". Cheap too. Currently unavailable but they're only $6.95 and mine were free shipping. I can see why they're out of stock. I've had no problems eliminating the rubber.

Hey, I one hundred percent agree with you - but I'm always willing to learn something new. I was hoping he'd tell me what the advantages of a 30mm venturi carb would be on this bike.

The intake manifold for the CG motor has a rubber hunk between two metal flanges for the head and carb. It's supposed to be for heat or vibration or something, not sure what if not both. After a few years, the rubber (awesome China quality) will start to break down and crack, creating a real lean condition. You'll wonder why your perfectly good bike's not running right.

I did a write-up on it here.

I put that one on my Amazon wish list and will buy when it comes available. Sooner or later it will need to be replaced. I've changed too many of these on ATV's and GoKarts.

My main issues is I ordered the wrong carb ...
Thought I was getting a 30mm carb and I guess the inlet is but not the inside..

Were all pretty much running 26mm carb's and none performance ones too boot

The VM28 flatslide carbs are like 80-110 bucks plus you need to get a new boot to connect it too the motor ... The flatslide carbs are supposed to have better throttle response also

Are bikes should gain from 26 too 28 inside

Thats where the pwk28 comes into play and seems like a good deal

http://www.ebay.com/itm/112023070837

29.99 and free shipping ... It's worth a shot to me .. I will try it sooner or later and yes I have the full exhaust and air box mod.

Just curious....Will it mount up? The VM26 has the correct size flange to mount on the head and the correct size intake for the air boot or 42mm pod filter, which is another eason for its popularity here.

Thank you for your response. I think the pros and cons of VM26 carburetors is connected on how you ride the bike. Going bigger means giving up sharpness below half throttle in order to gain above half throttle. That's why I asked you how you see yourself using the bike.

I dont think going from a 26mm too a 28mm is going to make you lose bottom end ... It might get harder to tune but it should be the same or more.. Specially when your switching over too a performance carb

I looked into other areas and it seems tons of people run 28mm carbs on 120-140cc bikes .. Are motors are nothing fancy but they are 229cc's and should utilize a 28mm carb

O and don't forget there's 2 styles of the VM carbs .. the round style and the flat style..
The round has a butterfly choke and round slide <-- none performance
The flat has a starting circuit and a flat slide <-- performance

I have a round vm26 round so when I do this if i don't see a gain then I can tell everyone its not worth it lol
