Definitely up the pilot size a little. They come with a 20, which on a completely stock bike will work but is a bit on the lean side. It took about 2 turns on the idle mixture for mine to idle right, but had a lit of part throttle hesitation. 30 solved almost all of that. A 35 is a touch too big, but would probably be good with intake and exhaust mods.

Thanks for the heads up Dan I will give it a shot, I didn't want to do any more changes until I pulled out the catalytic converter

For the record, a Keihin needs a 40 or 42 slow jet. 30 works good in my Mikuni and my first attempt on the Keihin I just purchased was a 42 which puts the idle mixture screw at 1 turn out. Note: the Keihin I purchased came with what appears to be a 38 (in Keihin sizing). It was unmarked, but, I determined it to be the same size as the 38 Keihin in my kit.

A 27.5 might also be a good size to try, and many people have had good luck with it. My bike is a hair on the fat side, but I did that intentionally. Very dark brown plug color, so it's not sooty rich, but any further and it will be. The 30 Mikuni pilot on a completely stock bike is honestly a smidge too big, and is roughly close to that 42 Keihin pilot size. It took a tiny bit more than 1 turn out on my mixture screw to get a good steady idle. Since you are, I am assuming, probably closer to sea level than I am, it should be just about right. I am at 1000ft elevation.

I wouldn't be too worried about the cat. I've been running a 30 pilot, 110 main, and set needle since day 1 on my bike. Not had one problem in over 600 miles now, aside from the catalytic converter getting so hot that it has started to boil the fuel in the bowl if it sat too long, and from what I understand that happens on completely untuned bikes sometimes. That cat radiates a ton of heat.

Do you have any links to where I can find the pilot jets for the vm26 clone 30mm carb the $35 one?
Or could I just drill out the stock #20 size ?

You can get them here, or search that jet style, VM28/486 and find countless options.

I finally got the 27.5 pilot jet install with the 110 main jet, 1 1\4 turns on the mixture screw.
It runs much smoother no more shutter at low throttle and the
exhaust pop is gone.
The idle seems to float around a bit now though so I need to do
some slight adjustments.
After that I took it on a 25 mile ride out in the country and around
Mogadore lake it definitely runs smoother and my cruising speed is around
50 MPH where before it was around 45 at the same throttle.
How about some pictures!

Here in Akron we are about 1004ft above sea level.

Glad to hear it is much better behaved. The idle will take a little fine tuning like you said, I also stepped down to a 27.5 pilot, and it took just a bit more than 1 turn out on the mixture screw to find a steady idle.

Have you done a plug chop on that 110 main yet? Being at the same altitude I am It may be a bit on the rich side for a completely stock bike.
