I think what he means is it puts more stress and leverage on axle/hub because it spaces the wheels further outboard. Kind of like with car wheels, if you change your stock wheels to something with a large positive offset (further outboard) it puts more stress on the wheel bearings. Using wheel spacers on atv's does pretty much the same thing. At least they come with the front end with a fairly wide stance. I had a little Kazuma 110 quad for my son way back in the day and the rear was fine, but the front end was way too tucked in making the bike really easy to flip over in turns. We put some wheel spacers on the front which made it much more stable, even though it puts added leverage on the hubs. I don't think anyone is launching off big jumps with these quads, the suspension is usually too harsh for that anyway so it's probably a pretty safe mod.

No don't plan on doing jumps or mid air stunts. Just trail riding and having fun in the woods. I see what your saying. but the axle length isn't changing. So is this a good thing to do on a coolster 150?. Is the rear axle and hub made well enough and sturdy enough that this is OK and worth doing. Or rather not because of risk of cracking axle, frame, or hub?

I have the wheels flipped plus 2" spacers on my Rhino and I believe it's basically the same diameter axle. Not a problem so far and I use it for hauling a cart full of stuff.

I haven't had any problem with this mod or have heard of anyone having a problem.

There are no wheel bearings in the hub to be concerned with. The bearings are in the center of the axle by the chain.

The hubs themselves seam sturdy enough to handle it. The adapters bolt in such a manner to the hub they basically become a true extension of it. The actual offset of the rear rim is only 1-2 inches so we aren't talking very much leverage difference.

You can't do this to the front wheels because of the drum brakes. That is correct. Really no point in doing it anyways as you are trying to line up the rear wheels with the front wheels width wise.

Why is the rear wheelbase narrower then the front? Best answer I can come up with is the size of the shipping crate. If you get one in the box you see first hand an extra six inches would take up more space in the shipping container which would mean they would have less room. Less room would mean less atv's shipped in the container. Higher shipping costs.. higher final price tag.

Flip the rear wheels left side to right side (to get the tread rotation pattern correct) so the air is facing inside the machine and you are good to go. Don't lose any sleep over it. All will be fine.

I'll probably do that eventually. But right now the kids (and I) are just riding these on the farm at low speeds, no tight corners, etc. so there's no benefit to it yet. I'll probably be changing out the sprocket(s) to gear them lower as we are using them for for utility than speed.

Gas cap

How come the 3150 gas cap doesn't have a vent on it? Does anyone recommend changing this to a gas cap with a vent. Or is there a vent somewhere else on these?

Most current vehicles, of any kind, have built in venting in the cap itself.
I can't say for sure about your machine, of course.
My older machines had a center dump-hose in the cap, my '07 has a vented cap, no dump-hose.

On topic... A spacer is recommended over flipping the wheels; However, if it saves a couple bucks I doubt it really matters except on the front.
The rear isn't too skinny, the front is too fat :P
It's for stability when cornering... A good example is sleds the skis used to be directly under the body, they changed the design moving the skis well outwards for stability. The old Elans tipped over ALL the time. LOL

Nice pictures and looks like great machines

Regards,
Dak

Hey everyone, first post... bought coolster 110's for my daughters 4 months ago and love them so much I bought a 150 DX2 for myself. It's being delivered tomorrow to my work! Can't wait.
How's the assembly on them? I have only found assembly videos for Tao Tao or 125's.
Looking forward to learning as much as I can on this forum.

Love the woodwork on the trailer!

Assembly? Take your time. Some say to use locktite. Check everything for tightness. Make sure everything is adjusted properly (cables, etc...). They shotgun these things on factory assembly.
Change the oil before you even start it. The factory oil is garbage.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the new addition.

X-2 on the oil change. Expect to use your tap and die set to chase some threads. Start a new build thread and take plenty of pictures and ask questions if something gets you stumped. Lots of support hereā€¦..

I have the rear tires flipped on all three Coolster 3150's I have. I'm 250 lbs and my brother is around 275 lbs and we have had no issues with the axles on the three 3150 ATV's we have.
