Rhino and Mikuni carb

I swithched my carb for a mikuni unit I wanted adjustability. It is the carb that had been promoted on this site to be a good replacement I belive its a vm 26. My problem is when I start her up the engine is racing and after looking into it I discovered the throttle cable that extends out past the sheathing is too short for the slide to sit all the way down. I confirmed this by installing slide and cap without the cable and it idled fine. My preliminary measurements seems to be the cable needs to extend out another 1/4 inch. Has anyone ran into this issue before and b if so what was the fix. Can I remove the brass nipple at the end cut some sheathing off and reattach. Sorry if this is basic stuff but this is all new to me I have wrenched on cars for years but this is my first atv. Thanks

That nipple you are describing on the cap. Some are short, longer, straight, curved etc. and the problem is they are cable length dependent. You have to purchase the new carb with matching nipple to the one you are replacing. Any chance the old cap and nipple will fit on the new carb? I got lucky once like this. I have never done it but I bet you could make a little spacer out of small copper pipe or maybe metal brake line or fuel line or something.

Oops sorry I see you need to lengthen the cable and not shorten it. My spacer idea was for shortening. I can't think of any way to lengthen the cable. You do have a small amount of adjustment at the throttle lever but I doubt if it will be enough.

if you can get the end off and cut the sheathing alittle go ahead and do it... as the cable is too short for you... there is nothing to lose..... I am sure you will take your time and try to remove it from the cable sheath very carefully.. too bad you do not have a adjustable cable... try it and see... nothing to lose

120V hi-wattage soldering iron is HEAVY compared to ours...

I have that carb on my Rhino with no issues. Check your cable routing all the way up and then take the thumb throttle apart and make sure it's set up correctly. It should fit.

X2. If you're replacing a Keihin clone, it should be a drop-in deal. Do you have a pic of the old carb, including the slider cap?

I was surprised by the complication as well because of your success and others as well. Everything looks good with the cable. Im starting a stretch of work where I will be working a ton of hours so I wont have much time but I will update when I figure it out

Just to update no matter what i did I could not get the carb to work without cutting a 1/4 inch off to expose more cable in the rest position. It did work and my rhino is running better then ever. I do strongly recommend this for anyone with a sealed unit who feels their machine is not performing at its peak. She pulls hard all the way to red line now and gets a little squirrley stabbing the throttle from lifting the front up and unloading the suspension. I used 2LZ (I think I got the name right) jet recommendation and it seems to be performing well.

I have one of these Mikuni vm26 carbs but haven't installed it yet. Not sure of the jet size. What sizes did you use JRS. Trying to get a ballpark idea of what range of jets to get.

I seem limited on the full throttle with the stock non adjustable carb.

Just noticed.. Stormville ... lived there many years in the 70's and 80's and elsewhere in area since then. Down in MD now.

115 main and 30 pilot.

I havent had a chance to really test, but initial feel is alot more responsive than stock.
