Help me Choose. A 125cc and 250cc.

125cc
I want to get a 125cc to teach my girlfriend and nephew how to ride. I see 3 different choices but not sure which one to get or if it even matters.

Seems like everyone gets the Apollo DB-x18. At least this is what I can find the most info on.http://www.powersportsmax.com/produc...ducts_id/20517

Another choice is DB-x29 X-Pro. which has a Zongshen brand engine. But I don't know don't they all have Zongshen Engines?

My 3rd choice which I kind of like the most. Looks wise is xmoto hx125deluxe.

I know I'm not going to be as easy to get parts and what not for any of these bikes as compared to a Japanese bike. But I'm not sure which one to pick. Any help would be appreciated and which one would you choose?

250cc
I also want to get a 250cc. Seem like everyone gets that apollo db-36 but I really like the looks of the xmoto hx250. I've only seen one other post on here about that bike and not much was really said. Other than looks are these bike basically the same? which one would you choose?

I have this bike, and it is pretty good. I use it to screw around on. When I was checking out bikes in this size, I felt this bike would hold up the best.

You are correct, this bike looks like a stripped down version of the Apollo. I have the Apollo 250rx too. It is a nice bike.

One thing to consider is who sells the parts. There are several Dealers that sell parts for the Apollo brand. Also, here are a few links to places that sell the bikes.

This company sells both Apollo's. Ask for Jason, I purchased my DB-x18 from him. Good experience.

I purchased an ATV for my son here: Ask for Steve. Very good experience.

Here is a good price for an Apollo 250. My buddy purchased from him, and had a good experience. I tried to buy one from him, but the shipping to California was too much, and we had to cancel the order.

I purchased my Apollo 250 from Powersportsmax. I had a good experience with them too, but it is hard to get someone on the phone. I had most luck calling in the morning close to when they opened.

Just a heads up, with both my bikes I was minor idle issues. After replacing the Carburetors on both bikes they now idle great. From the research that I have done it seems like Apollo, Hawk, TaoTao, and Coolster are the major brands for the Chinese Bikes. I own two Apollo Dirt bikes, A coolster ATV, and a TaoTao Bull 200. With my experience it seems the Apollo Brand is the better Quality, but I have no experience with the Hawk brand.

how small is your girlfriend and nephew? Depending on your nephew's size, he may outgrow the 17/14 by the time he's 16. I got the 14/12 for my grandson who is 12 now. he won't be one it long, I don't think. 17/14 will be next in probably 2 years. then move to full size at 16. as for power though, it's got pretty good power. Try to find one with a 1-N-2-3 shift pattern. might as well teach them to shift the same as all the bigger bikes.

BTW...I bought from PowerSportsMax when I got the 125. mine is the DB-X20. I specifically bought it for the zong motor.

I believe most all of these bikes use the Zongshen engines. Since manufacturers in China tend to buy a bunch of parts, slap them together, and put them through EPA testing, I think for consistency they purchase their engines from one source--Zongshen. That being said, some might use Lifan engines which would NOT be a bad thing, by any means. You are good to go with either engine OEM.

I personally like the look of the full-size XMoto bike over the Apollo, but as far as which one is 'better' could probably be compared to trying to decide between a new Ford Fusion or a Chevy Malibu...either one will be as good as the other off a new dealer's lot.

Choosing between any of the 125cc pit bikes is like choosing your favorite child. I would probably play eenie, meenie, miny moe to be honest...

My girlfriend is 5'4" or 5'5", or somewhere around there. Not too tall so I thought a 125 would be a good start for her, with the lower seat height. It hopefully not to small for her, but I tend not to think so since a lot of people buy grom's and they're not any bigger. But like I said just looking for something to ride trails on not go to a motocross track.

Nephew is prolly little too small for a 125 right now. But I don't have the money to buy 3 bikes. so I gotta start somewhere and I'd have it for him to grow into.

My wife is 5'2 and the 17/14 bikes are her preferred ride. She wants to be able to pick it up herself. She has a 125 and it's plenty for her size.
