OBD connection to the RX3

First off I have to thank Katflap for his original information and links to PCHud software, advice and encouragement. I've been off the forum for a while but after having some free time this week I've taken to tinkering with my RX3 again. Had some exciting results to share with you guys. The only piece of equipment I had to make was a lead to connect to the K-Line on our bikes diagnostic port. I used a 16 pin car type OBD2 extension lead cutting off the one end and finding the three wires needed to connect to our bike. So far I've been able to connect a handheld diagnostic scanner direct with the lead but most exciting of all by using an ELM OBD Scan wifi interface attached to my lead I've been able to connect to my phone and tablet, trials with OBD Fusion software on the tablet I was able to read for faults (none found) but the fun part is I can build a 'dash board' to read from the bike data. Now I'm using a phone for navigation on the bike so will be experimenting with available software now for diagnostics and dashboard displays over the elm obd wifi interface on it.... be good to be able to monitor the bikes ecu on the go.
Also I've been able to get PCHud running on my Windows 10 64bit laptop by installing VMWare player and a copy of win xp 32bit in a virtual player. I connected to my bike using my homemade OBD 16 pin to three wire adaptor plugged into a cheap ebay VAG KKL USB OBD lead. I've added some pics of the leads I have used and hopefully tomorrow take some pics of my devices connected to the bike displaying it's live data.

Innova OBD scanner 3110 connects, detects protocol and shows no DTC's present.*After further testing although said connected it didn't read any faults after I pulled the bike O2 sensor plug off :-(
PCHud connects and diagnoses as it should.
I have managed to connect to my phone and tablet over the wifi interface but software only showing battery voltage so I need to mess about with software settings or try different ones next.

wireless communication with smartphone, very nice !! As you say, conceivably, that could serve as your entire dash board if the gui was set up correctly. possibly a app could be made in an app store and sold at a reasonable price. WOW !

also,as spud asked on another thread, did you test it by force throwing a code on it?

I have constructed a similar cable, but it failed to connect my MaxiScan MS309 to the Delphi ECU in my RX3.



Therefore, I reckoned the Delphi ECU software was not completely OBD2 compliant.

My cheap scanner attempts to link with Keyword 2000, but doesn't connect with the Delphi ECU.

If you disconnect the O2 sensor, or disconnect the cable for the ignition coil, do you get the appropriate trouble code? Can you reconnect the cable, and clear the trouble code with the OBD2 scanner?

My MaxiScan MS309 scanner works with my automobile, but not my RX3. I'm pretty sure the Delphi ECUs in our CSC bikes have a different version of the software than the Honely bikes. Perhaps this is the problem?

Hi Spud, mmmmm after trying what you suggested with my scanner althought it said connected Keyword 2000 I pulled the O2 sensor lead off and no DTC were detected :-( out of interest tried the clear error code function too, came back failed so yes my scanner doesn't after all do anything with our ECU.. I connected my laptop with PCHud and got the error code 49 as current, reconnected the O2 sensor and the error code moved to historic faults. Interesting to see now though the O2 voltage is stuck at 1017mV and not fluctuating with throttle change, assuming it needs to recalibrate to the ECU maybe before it's read properly?

The O2 sensor voltage normally fluctuates in a sine wave, and this voltage fluctuation does show up when you make a graph of it. However, the PCHud display usually indicates a voltage of 1017 mv when the O2 sensor is operating properly.

Hello

You will never connect a handheld scanner to the Delphi MT05 and see any useful information.
The reason is simple: The Delphi MT05 is NOT OBD2 compliant.

Until today PCHUD was the only software able to communicate with MT05. But this is past now because I wrote the new "HUD ECU Hacker" which is based on reverse engineering the ancient PCHUD.

Obviously it runs on all Windows versions and platforms.
It is freeware and it can be configured 100% by the user.
All parameters are defined in an XML file.
This allows to adapt the program even to other ECU's.

It can also communicate over an ELM 327 adapter.
And while PCHUD can only display max 36 parameters at the same time, HUD ECU Hacker diplays them all.

It can record logfiles and export to CSV.
It can clear fault codes (DTC) which did not work in PCHUD.

Wow, that's an interesting discussion. You have created a fantastic tool for us RX3 or RX4 owners! I already have the Zongshen diagnostic tool but it's much less capable than what you have developed. Thanks.

Hello, joining the discussion, I have a zongshen rx3 Efi 2017 and I'm going to insert a 299cc set, but it's hard to find information about such tuning, I asked a Chinese on Ali express, who has such sets, unfortunately at the most expensive price, said that he had customers for such sets in rx3 and everything works ok 100 percent, and that his set has a 16mm pin, because it is different with 17mm, and even as one said that 18mm sellers also found thinner jigs for the rx3, which is a bit lighter.I also changed the front of my rx3 to rx4 headlight, bracket and windshield.
