My old xr200r was stated to make 24 hp. I assumed the Lifan was kept at such a low output for reliability reasons.

Did your XR have more hp? Undoubtedly, because it was OHC, far more cutting edge at the time.......but the Japanese were also notorious for sometimes vastly overestimating also. It looked good in bike rags and brochures.

The CG is an archaic design, made to be whipped like a bad mule with zero maintenance in Third World countries. It's done that very well.

24 ho for a 200cc bike is unusual, unless the engine makes 10k rpm or more. True Japanese bikes are more efficient than Chinese bikes, but still.. Honda does focus on torque over HP on many of their bike engines, save for the super sports bikes
