Riding boots

I'm thinking about springing for some riding boots. Are they worth the $$$ and is there anything I should look for or be careful of?

What type of riding are you looking to do? Lots of choices out there and anything labeled motorcycle or ADV gets pricy.

For everyday riding to work, around town, etc. I have these http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/i...erduty-4-boots
Good ankle protection but overall very comfortable boot to wear and walk around. Look good with jeans or khakis. They are not insulated or water proof.

For Adv, Dirt, Touring, I have these. http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/s...gore-tex-boots but bought them from here http://www.biker-land.de/en/Motorcyc...Tex-boots.html. Same boot, much cheaper (German site but did not issues with shipping, payment, etc.) Great boot for all day touring, trail riding, etc. Euro sized but fit pretty true to size.

Are the worth the $$$?... Weigh the price of boots vs. ankle surgery.

your question is kinda like asking which oil you should use. LOL

but here's some that I like:

I bought these for commuting and touring work and am very pleased with them, particularly because the price was so good.

This what I like. http://www.511tactical.com/atac-8-side-zip-boot.html
Cop boots, so they are super comfy. I use these for more than just riding so they get the snot beat out of them and they still last awhile. I get them at Gander Mountain.

ahh I never thought about 5.11 as you can imagine with my handle "pistolclass" I have spent some money there. They do make some durable stuff, field proven. I just wonder if they offer motorcycle specific protection. Those boots are good for kicking in a perps head or fast roping in a swat type of ingress but how will they do when a motorcycle lands on your ankle.

Admittedly, never gave the 'motorcycle landing on the ankle' part any thought. The two times I crawled out from under a moto, my hip and knee took the brunt. I would guess that any type of ankle protection is better than none at all.

I got a third-degree sprain when I high sided in rut while riding off road. I was wearing normal shoes and my right ankle got caught under the engine and in the rut. I still remember flying through the air.

I didn't need surgery and I got lucky because it took only about 9 months to kind of trust the ankle and it did fully heal.

These are my boot of choice:
http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/f...FUEdgQodi2QNfg

They're very comfortable walking around (break-in took about 3 days), and really do a good job hooking up to the footpegs when you stand up to get into the gnarly stuff of get over a fallen tree. They're waterproof, so they don't breathe all that well, but I ride in the rain, wind and snow so I would rather trade the airflow for warm and dry feet. I got my pair on sale from Freewheeling Honda in Douglasville, GA for $79. That's my two cents worth, hope it helps.
