I'm not sure either. If rocker play is truly the source of your noise, then it really cannot be rectified without drastic measures as the shaft which the rocker runs on has a nut welded on so cannot be removed. Or at least that's the way mine is. Perhaps one of the dealers can pull a rocker assembly from stock and check the play?

Bear in mind that's if the noise is the rocker. If it's not and varies with motor temp and oil viscosity, the only other thing that comes to mind is main bearing issues.

Looks like you can remove the rocker arm shaft. No welded nut on my bike.

Sure seems like it is comming from the head. I dont think it is main bearing issues, but I coul dbe wrong.

Any idea how I may be able to measure oil pressure?

Only way to accurately measure oil pressure that I am aware of is at the main gallery, basically where the oil is pressurizing the main bearings...At least this is where most autos read the pressure. There is no point on my motor that this can be done on my motor without extensive drilling and tapping. Not sure of anywhere the gallery is close to the outer surface of the block. I'd personally look at the rocker play, as it's the easiest to rule out using shims.

Incidentally, shims are used old Volkswagon air-cooled motor rockers...in combination with spring washers in order to remove rocker play.

Use a long screwdriver and hold the handle end in you ear. Place the tip on the running engine to pinpoint the noise.

if you stick a finger in each ear, the ticking goes away that the same thing. It's still there you just can't hear it as well.

When I got my bike the oil was low and the chatter was pretty loud. I changed out my shipping oil and topped up to max. with fresh. The chatter almost went away. My manual says, and I quote.

"Use 10w 30 gaolene or better. Do not mix the two!"

I have no idea what that means. I used 10w 30 oil. Any suggestions on what I should have used?

Ayjay, How did you make out with your sewing machine? My bike sounds exactly like you are describing. Sounds great when it is cold and when motor heats up it sounds terrible. I was wondering if the Rottella 15 w 40 is good enough oil for this motor. I am still trying to figure out my clutch issues with my GY-5.

Did my break-in with Rotella 15/40, switched to Mobil-1 synthetic for 4-strokes 20/50 after that..
I do notice a tick, my problem is, how much tick is too much tick???
It's runs great and has no vibe issues at all but I've always had OHC engines in my 4-strokes so I'm not used to any tick... Mine ticks when it gets hot...Hmmm...

if it runs good, stop worrying about it. its a $1000 china bike 8O

id say ticking = good, id rather have loose valves then tight ones.

valves tighten up over time, the valve seats get compressed and the stem gets longer. if they get too tight your bike won't want to idle.

tight valves = more top end
lose valves = more lown end

My bike is quiet as far as ticking, It has a good amount of low end and is fair on top end....I just want to go faster than 55 or so...I am waiting to be able to buy an even smaller sprocket.

i would say if the bike is running ok, leave it alone.. When you notice the power loss, or other problems, then rip her down and check it out. I think i am going to just run my motor till it blows up. Then i will replace the motor with a stage 1 or 2 motor from that gentleman in malaysia.

I am going the minimum maintenance route too. Maybe abit more than run it till it blows though. I don't have any ticking yet.
