110cc quad problem

I just rebuilt my sons 110cc quad and it starts and runs fine but some times when im trying to start it it backfires (sounds like its coming out of the head or exhaust port) could this be a timing issue or what else could it be the carb is brand new too...

I would go with timing. Did you change the CDI to a race one or anything? It might be that the timing chain is off by a tooth.

BACK FIRING PROBLEM

the reason why it is backfiriung is because the needle is to high ... too much fuel and it will pre-ignite.... I had this problem and took the motor apart... thru another motor back on the atv.. re-install starter and carb... SAME PROBLEM..a then I put on another carb( new one from mystock ) and it was good.. so I checked and the needle was higher than the other new carb.. switched it back and it backfirred when trying to start.. the fuel was flodding the motor just enough to backfire and this also causes the starter mounting plate to break due to the hard kick back...LOWER the needle into the carb

NEEDLE CLIP

Try moving it down one knotch & see what happens.. check your throttle carb to see if it is moving it all the way up... take off the air filter to see inside..

low power

so you went from back firing to not back firing but no power.... it seems like the problem was too much fuel and now not enough fuel... I am thinking that you have the air filter off when you are checking this problem out... as once a person was telling me low power and it ended up being a plugged air filter... .. ok.. so the air filter is off and you have no power.... either the carb is plugged, .. a fuel line is now pinched.. or ?? you have to see if you put the needle back to where it was before you lowered it... does it do the same thing... as many times we create the problem... did you re-adjust the idle air screw after the lowering of the needle??
