I took a look inside my Mikuni today. Came with a 100 main and 20 pilot. Think I have to get some new jets for it. Suggestions welcome.

Sorry for the late update but the previous recommendation seems spot on so far. 115 main and 30 pilot. I took it out yesterday for a quick ride and it performed great feels like a whole new machine. So much more responsive and pulls hard. I would start there and if you want to get a couple up or down this should get you close.

I'm curious if anyone has an issue with the cable being too short besides me so Darth when you do install let me know if you have any issues or anyone else reading. I'm still stumped why my machine gave me an issue, but others have not.

So it sounds like it is little lean out of the box.

What groove on the needle did you put the clip on?

I just got some jets today. 115/30 and a couple extra sizes in that range. Would like to know the needle clip position too. Just have it in the middle position for now. Will install the carb when the jets get here. They were cheap enough at jetsrus.

I know the elevation range where JRS is located so I figured that would be a good starting point for me. 2LZ uses the same but is out in California so was unsure. Elevation gets pretty high there.

Hmm, these main and pilot jet sizes may work at the elevation of our location too which is about 900' above sea level.

I usually run the clip in the fourth position from the top....and I'm at 3000 feet. It's a wee rich though. I may change it back to the middle and see how it drags my cart up the back hill.

On the Mikuni I got for the Phoenix, for some reason, I forgot to check it. The bike started to develop a flat spot when it got good and hot. I took it apart and it CAME SHIPPED in the bottom (richest) position.
Make sure you check it even on a new carb.

Do you think the middle position might be okay for me at 100ft-700ft elevation? Thinking I might need to be at the top notch or second notch. Looking forward to this next step.. hoping to see it perk up a bit and perform a little better.

I ordered the 115/112.5/110 main jets and 30/27.5 pilot jets to start with. Think I went in the right direction.

That's a nice selection of jetting and the same setup I bought for Mrs 2LZ TT with the exception of a 25 pilot. Right now I have hers set with the 112.5/25 and it seems to be doing very well at about 1.75 turns out on the mixture screw.

At your elevation, I may even try the 110/27.5, especially if you're running the stock exhaust bazooka. Check out that combo and if it seems rich according to the plug, order a 25 pilot just to have on hand. Fortunately, they're cheap if you need one.

In almost all my rolling stock, I find that the fourth notch down on the clip seems to give it the best throttle response.

Appreciate the response and guidance 2LZ.

Yeah stock bazooka and same Amazon air filter you use.

Will try the 110/27.5 & 1.75 turns to start and 4th notch down on the needle. Was unsure about the mixture screw.. I preset it at 2

Been doing a lot of reading the last two days how to go about tuning a carb from the start. Kinda have the right idea now... I'm at least comfortable with the way the VM26 is setup and the different adjustments.

Yah, the vm26 is pretty easy to set up.
With the mixture screw, IF you can get to it while it's running and hot, I usually start it at about 2+ turns, then start to slowly close it till it hits its peak rpm, then open it back up about 1/8-1/4 turn. Without a vacuum gauge, that's generally "dang close". Problem is getting to the screw while it's running and hot. ;-)

I have one of those flex bit adapter deals that might work.

LOL already burnt my hand once on that header... don't want to do that again.

Where do you set the idle screw to start with 2LZ? That part confuses me a little with the mixture screw being not set yet.

I usually set it at 2 turns out so my reference is a round number. That should be a little rich so just closing it some from there should get you close.
